Garm Posted January 28, 2010 Share Posted January 28, 2010 I've been out of the loop for a while as far as graphics cards go and the old 7900GT just doesn't cut it. I've picked up a 4890 and I'm just not sure what kexts I need to get everything all working. I've had a poke around and I'm thinking I need: ATIRadeonX2000.kext ATI4800Controller.kext EVOenabler.kext Is this correct? I've downloaded netkas QE_CI_Exotic_cards_10_5_8.pkg and a version of ATI4800Controller.kext and EVOenabler.kext. Although I think ATI4800Controller.kext and EVOenabler.kext's I have were designed for use in Snow Leopard. I've installed what I have into extensions but I end up with a garbled screen. I've had a look in this thread http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=200458 but it's intended for 10.6.2 and I don't appear to have the "extra" folder that is mentioned. There are several other threads that mention getting the 4890 working but all in Snow Leopard. I've edited com.apple.Boot.plist to run at 1280x1024x32 so at least I'm not stuck with {censored} resolution but obviously QE and CI don't work and card isn't recognised. I'm running an older version of EFI and I'm wondering if I should upgrade and go to Snow Leopard? I'm not looking for a hand out but I'd appreciate a nudge in the right direction. FYI my card is this XFX HD-489X-ZNFL Radeon HD 4890 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 For anyone interested I installed the following in the order listed: 1. Patched framebuffers for 48x0 and 3870x2.pkg 2. 7_radeon_hd_48x0_drivers.pkg 3. Restart 4. Enabler_for_Nvidia_and_multiple_ATI_cards.pkg 5. QE_CI_Exotic_cards_10_5_8.pkg To be honest I don't know that you need steps 1 and 2 but now that I have everything working I'm not going to break things just to find out I'll leave that to you A big thankyou to all the awesome people in the community that created these lovely kexts! I've also got a 4890 (upgraded from 9800gt - world of difference under windows.. not that the 9800 was slow) and so far can't get anything working.
