Hey Everyone!

I have been trying for months to install the Mac OSX operating system on my Dell Studio xps 1640. I am past all the partitioning and stuff like that, my main problem is when it comes to the actual installation. I DO have a copy of Leopard so i can either go about installing with the retail version or through a distro. I would prefer retail because of the advantages of the software updater.... but at this point ill do anything to get this finally up and running. I first attemted with mulitple distros. the only one that ever really worked for me was the iATKOS v7. I would go through the install and then, after formatting my partition to the Mac Journal extended and selecting my kext (which im also not very sure of), the installation would proceed and then stop at 30%. it would sit at the 30% marker for about 5 minuetes before the an error message comes up and says that the verification of the disk failed. I then took a break for a few months and backed out of attempting to install. just recently i took advantage of the Boot 123/retail disk method. I downloaded the Boot123.iso and everything seemed to be going smoothly. I would get to the apple and it would load all the way up to the point to where i could even see the purple and black space background..... but then it just sits there for hours with a spinning beach ball. Thats as far as i can get. Therefore, that is why im asking for advice on how to preform this installation! My specs are listed below! Thanks!!!!

Specs:

Dell Studio XPS 1640

Windows 7 (x64) Home Premium

Intel Core 2 Duo T9550 (2.66 GHz)

4GB RAM 1066MHZ, DDR3, 2X2G

Dell Wireless 370 Bluetooth Minicard

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3670

HL-DT-ST DVDRWBD CA10N ATA

Integrated Webcam

Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN

Broadcom NetLink Gigabit Ethernet

IDT High Defention Audio

HDMI jack

Standard PS/2 keyboard

HID Compliant mouse -or- PS/2 Compliant mouse

yes its possible. i've seen people get theirs up and running (except QE/CI support with video)

i'm working on a dell studio 1735 and its pretty close to your specs. the dell studios use alot of the same chipsets. i was about to follow this guide this weekend

so i would recommend you try following that guide (skipping any part about the Intel GMA graphics as yours has the ATI mobility) and see if you have any success

  • 4 weeks later...

I installed Snow Leopard using Empire EFI v 1.085 booting

with -v -x install did gone well after restart it did remain on the window for login where you must

set an user and password, i did set them but the button Continue and back were locked

and all moving ok using usb mouse, because the track pad did not function, but the keybord did,

so i did a restart, i did think it may be from my video card, so i did boot same but having

-v -x -s and then delete all ATI files, rm -r /S/L/E/ATI*

and reboot after that using efi cd just choose your partition where yo have SL and

it should boot fine, no network, no wifi, no audio, i did not tested other things.
