I just (took 3 long nights) managed to install 10.6 retail vanilla and upgraded to 10.6.2. I used one of the Gigabyte Boot132 CDs, the ones I tried to make myself didn't work (hung at the 'loading' or if it did get past that it went into a neverending reboot loop), but that was probably due to myself not understanding the process entirely.

Anyways, this is what's on the Commell LV-679 Mini-ITX motherboard:

Intel 965GME

ICH-8m

GMA965 X3100 (composite, vga, 2x DVI)

Realtek ALC888 (multi channel and TOSLINK)

2x Gigabit Lan Intel 82573L

Also added a PCI-e WLAN module from a laptop in there (not recognized)

I installed Chameleon RC4 to the hidden EFI partition, I don't have a DSDT file yet, nor options set in the smbios.plist file. When i don't use the Gigabyte Boot132 CD it hangs or reboot loops at the grey apple screen.

What I need help with is which kexts i need and and what alterations in the DSDT file and smbios.plist.

I tried getting the DSDT info, but that doesn't work since chameleon already loads the DSDT info from the boot132 cd. So i will have to get that through linux with a LiveCD, which shouldn't be a problem. I will need to edit the RTC part to prevent the CMOS from being reset (already found enough info on that)

Video problems.... The video works, I read that a DSDT patch is needed for a black screen problem which I don't have. Or EFi-Strings, but couldn't find anything more about that than the fact that it needed it. I don't get to select the resolution though, it's set at 1024x768. Maybe that's caused by the Gigabyte boot132 CD? In the About this Mac app, I don't see any X3100 references in the Graphics part. So it's not recognized? But it's still working...

I read different things about the ICH-8(m), will I need to load a kext for that?

The realtek ALC888 works out of the box, TOSLINK doing it's work

Also read that the Intel 82573L Lan had problems, but seems to work fine so far.

I would like to have some advice from people who have similar hardware, to get it to at least boot without the boot132 CD so I can start tweaking from there. There are currently no kexts at all in the Extra folder on the hidden EFI partition.

Any help, advice or nudges in the right direction will be appreciated.

P.S. I don't recommend this board to anyone, although it seems to have everything you might want for a HTPC/Router (except maybe HDMI). It is very picky about it's power supply, wouldn't boot after a while for no apparent reason. Wasted money on a new CPU before I figured that out. But another problem is that fact that the CPU still keeps overheating (same problem occured when I had linux installed). Playing HD content, even during the installation of the 10.6.2 update the temperature shot up to 70 degrees celcius. Oh, and support from Commell seemed ok at first, but when the power supply problem started and they had no clue, they stopped responding to email.

well, seems alc88 wasn'tworking out of the box, only when booted from the gigabyte boot132 cd. in the end i used voodoohda on the efi partition (with its dependencies and edited plists) to get sound working-ish. spdif works and that's all i needed.

fixed ich-8m problems with DSDT edits

only big problem left is the x3100. it works, but without QE/CI (no ripples in dashboard) and is stuck in 1024x768. it has a 0x2a12 device id instead of 2a02 what most people have. editing the x3100 kexts, changing 2a02 into 2a12 doesn't work. most information found online pertain to laptops, this is a mini-itx system, so different problems. want to try the efi string method but don't know how to make my own. want to try to patch the dsdt to change the device-id to 0x2a02, but there is no entry in the dsdt for the video card.

if someone has any suggestions, i'm all ears
