kevin7554
Ok here is my setup ga-p55-ud2 I5 650 geforce 9400 2 gig corsair memory Trying to follow Tonymacx86 guide found here http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2009/12/ins...ectly-from.html Pretty sure its not working because of the I5 650 CPU. I am new to this can someone tell me how I would get this working. PeterHaas
Pretty sure its not working because of the I5 650 CPU. I am new to this can someone tell me how I would get this working. Thanks Not an issue with the GPU in the i5-650. I'm running an i3-540 in my GA-P55M-UD2 (and in my previous GA-H55M-S2H), and without any problems. Tonymacx86's ##### is a good installer for this board (well, both of those mentioned are supported). I built the GA-H55M-S2H/i3-540 way, way before #####, or even i3-compatible loaders were available from tonymacx86, and although my early install did not come easily, I eventually figured it out. Forcing busratio into the boot loader is essential with the early boot loaders which support the 55-Series. Subsequently, after successfully booting SL, busratio=xx may be specified in com.apple.Boot.plist. Tonymacx86's new, "minimal" DSDT concept is also essential to getting a reliable install. The theory, here, is to do the absolute minimum which is required to get the board to work. Especially for sound, but also for video. This document, available as a download from his site, is intended to work with the updated Giga DSDTs, the ones which have the OSx86-friendly "AMAC" variable. However, all the AMAC-related stuff can be retrofitted to earlier DSDTs, and the same functionality can be achieved thereby. I did this to my F5 BIOS on my GA-H55M-S2H. Giga later included the AMAC stuff in its F6 DSDT. For the GA-P55M-UD2, the F11 BIOS will get you the AMAC stuff. Thereafter, you may execute the minimal DSDT mods which are suggested, or you may simply download from tonymacx86's DSDT library the one you need for your mobo. A P55 mobo, which DOES NOT have off-carrier support for the i5-650's GPU (nor, for that matter, for the i3-540's GPU), DOES NOT CARE that an on-carrier GPU is present. That GPU is simply ignored because there is no off-carrier support for it. Although Giga's specifications for its P55 mobos says these are suitable only for i5 and i7 processors, its CPU Support List clearly states that i3 processors and, indeed, Pentium Dual-Core G6950 processors, each of which have on-carrier GPUs, are also supported. Of course, with a P55 mobo, you WILL require a PCI-e video card. For my builds, I used the tried-and-true GeForce 8400GS. Perhaps it is your GeForce 9400 video card which is the problem? With the ##### method, you use the ##### Supported CD as a "helper", then you install SL to the target drive, then you boot into SL, again using the CD as a "helper", then you install the 10.6.4 Combo Update, and FINALLY you run #####, which installs the boot loader on the target drive, and installs the /Extra folder. Thereafter, you may boot directly into SL at the 10.6.4 level and run Software Update... until there are no more updates available. One of the significant benefits of ##### is going directly from 10.6 (AKA, 10.6.0) to 10.6.4 without any intermediate steps. You also get sound using Legacy888bHDA in /Extra, and AppleHDA in /System/Library/Extensions which is "rolled-back" to the 10.6.2 level, and which is an absolute requirement to get ALC888 (AND ALC888b) to work on any version of SL past 10.6.2.
