ujjain
Hi, Because I was unable to install MacOSX on VMWare after spending 6 hours on it, I have downloaded a MacOSX VMWare Image online. The problem is that this image is only 16GB and I need a bigger partition, because I am interested in getting to know the OS and want to learn more about developing apps for the iPhone. It is impossible to repartition the main partition via MacOSX, which makes sense. When I reboot with a MacOSX installer disk and tell the VM to start from cd-rom it crashes within a few seconds, to reboot. I remember an error talking about a 'suspended cpu that would cause a crash', but that message does not come up anymore. Without the install disk, the MacOSX boots fine, but I am unable to change the size of the main partition. I have been spending quite a few hours and am really looking to get this working. Please let me know if you have any recommendations or advice. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/208920-unable-to-repartition-macosx/ Share on other sites
srs5694
I'm not familiar with the details of VMware; however, the following procedure should work: Make a copy of your current disk image and resize it in VMware, so that the emulator treats it as a bigger disk. (If this isn't possible, create a new virtual disk of the size you need.) Boot with your original (too-small) disk image, but tell VMware to use the new one as a second disk. Use Apple's Disk Utility to resize the second disk image's partition to the size of the virtual disk. If this doesn't work, or if you created a new disk image, then create a copy of the original disk on the new one. Disk Utility can do this generally, but I'm not sure if it'll work when using its own boot disk as the source partition. If not, try using Carbon Copy Cloner. Shut down VMware and try booting the new system. It's possible you'll need to boot once again with the original disk image and (re-)install the boot loader on the new disk. (Try searching for Chameleon, PC-EFI, or Boot Think; these are three common OSx86 boot loaders.)
