balanis
The audio on my 10.4.6 JAS PPF1 installation seems to only be working for the left channel, and it is choppy/weird sounding. I was browsing throught the folders and I found a VIA AC97 kext in the following path. /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAC97Audio.kext/Contents/Plugins/AppleAC97AudioVIA.kext It has a Contents folder with plist files and a MacOS folder. Does this mean that the VIA audio driver is already loaded? There are also other types of AC97 audio kexts in the Plugins path. I'm new to Mac OS X, so I don't quite understand if I need to do something to get better audio. If this is as good as it gets, I'd just like to know. My motherboard is a VIA P4m266A chipset with VIA VT8235 Southbridge. So far I've also got the built in LAN working and would like to learn more to see if I can also get more video resolutions for the built in ProSavage8. Thanks. jrsdead
The following kext gave me sound from both channels. Use Audio MIDI Setup to set volume of AC97 Audio (PCM) and set default outputs to AC97 Audio (SPDIF) to remove choppy sound. Dont forget to rebuild kextcaches and repair permissions. jrsdead AppleAC97Audio.zip Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/20888-via-ac97-audio/#findComment-138667 Share on other sites

Then I found a thread talking about how people got both channels. I tried their kext and it also didn't work. The I read in their thread that someone had luck replacing only the VIA kext in a subfolder, which I tried, and it worked. I was just wondering, is your kext from that thread? Thanks for all your help. I'm getting more working all the time. Ai Haibara
Just open terminal, log as superuser and go to /System/Library. Then type: rm Extensions.kextcache rm Extensions.mkext kextcache -k Extensions. Then close terminal, go in /Applications/Utilities folder and run Disk Utility. Select your partition and click "Repair permissions". I just wanted to post that it fixed mine also, because I'm sure others are having the same problem. Guest goodtime
On my Compaq X1000 with OS X 10.4.6 upgraded to 10.4.7, sound worked in both channels but was very choppy. Especially with Flash Video games and Quicktime Movies. After battling the choppy sound for days, I was able to get the sound working 100% without choppyness. Using the AC97 KEXT, In the info.plist file for ICH4, I move my device ID from there to ICH2 and removed the Device ID from ICH4. I also copied my device ID to Maxxuss' AC97 KEXT located in the same area. Both KEXTs load and the choppy sound went away. I don't know which Hack fixed it as I stopped messing with it once I was able to get high quality sound to work all of the time. Luminaire
I don't wan't to bump old threads or anything, but it doesn't work for me. I've got a VIA VT8252 chipset... Thing is, I've tried every possible combination of file alterations. From the main Kext file to the sub folder's sub.
