R3N3G4D3
I have ASUS 4850 1GB DVI+VGA+HDMI card. I know it' s non-reference card, but several others managed to get similar cards working on these forums (like here). I started off by installing vanilla 10.6, and tried updating ATI4800Controller.kext, setting GraphicsEnabler in my bootloader. After reboot, my graphics card was recognized as "4600 Series" and only 256MB ram, with no additional resolutions available. After some more tweaking, I removed the GraphicsEnabler from Boot.plist and used EVOenabler.kext instead, my card started getting recognized correctly as ATI 4850, but still showed only 256MB RAM, and only 1024*768 resolution available. I tried updating my Boot.plist to use 1650x1080 (like my monitor supports), but ended up with 1400x1050 (which looked even worse than 1024x768 because of the aliasing). After reading some more threads here, I downloaded LegacyATI4800Controller.kext to my /Extra/Extensions/, updated to 10.6.2, installed netkas Exotic package, netkas ATI/NVidia enabler, and Exotic 10.6.2 patch. After reboot, I tried "-x" option to boot into safe mode, but my graphics card went back to "4600 series". All my downloaded kexts are in /Extra/Extensions/, and I run Kext Utility before reboot every time to rebuild Extensions.mkext. I don't know what else to try, since what I've done so far seems to be working for most people. R3N3G4D3
Anyone? I'm not even seeing black screen like others here before they get graphics working, does that mean OSX is not even attempting to use the driver? I just end up booting back to my 1024x768 (or whatever 4:3 resolution is closest to the one I specify in Boot.plist). tuxuser33
Trial and error gave me a similar card working. (Sapphire 4850 1GB VGA, HDMI, DVI) Partially working with the help of FB-video-mode and OSX installed a second partition on. http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...3447&st=20# Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/208749-cant-get-4850-working-in-1062/#findComment-1394687 Share on other sites
R3N3G4D3
I just realized something and now feel very stupid. When I first bought the card, I threw out the box right away and this whole time thought it was 4850. Just found out (by looking at device ID) that my graphics card is actually 4650. No wonder my changes had no effect. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/208749-cant-get-4850-working-in-1062/#findComment-1394765 Share on other sites
