2k8
Hi guys I obtained SnowOSX v3.5 and burned it to a Sony DVD using the Windows 7 built-in burner I'm on a Compaq Presario C701EA which has an Intel 965 (integrated) graphics card I boot up the disc and it comes to the darwin bootloader, -v and it reaches some DNS could not be reached (something similar) after this, it goes to the light blue screen and hangs there (for eternity) anyone got a solution? it's really frustrating coz it took a day and a half to dl and 3/4 of my dl limit and now its not working P.S. I had managed to get Kalyway 10.5.2 working on the same laptop with no problems but managed to mess up the boot so thought i may as well update to 10.6 thanks in advance Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/208628-snowosx-on-compaq-c701ea/ Share on other sites
2600MHz
What are the full specs? CPU, mobo, etc? I tried Googling them with no joy. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/208628-snowosx-on-compaq-c701ea/#findComment-1393500 Share on other sites
2k8
sorry, i posted a reply around an hour back but it doesn't seem to have come up processor is intel pentium dual-core (1.6ghz) Under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers in device manager, it shows ATA channel 0, ATA Channel 1 and Intel® ICH8M 3 port Serial ATA Storage Controller - 2828 (guessing third one is the mobo) 1GB RAM Internal hard drive - WDC WD1200BEVS-60UST0 ATA Device (120GB SATA) u probably know this but max resolution is 1280x800 btw, will fixing the Kalyway install boot so i can boot back into it help in anyway? (maybe i could use the OSInstall.pkg if that works any better) my Kalyway install is in perfect condition but refuses to boot (there is no bootloader on the partition - my bad ). i've googled and tried darwin from the disc to get in through rd=rdisk0s2 but it gets to the grey apple screen then shows a no-entry kind of sign on top of the apple and stalls. The kalyway disc just gives me still waiting for root device errors and comes to a grey screen then shuts-down. Just wondering if there is anyway to fix this and if it is at all necessary - will it be easier to install SL through the .pkg file? DVD-writer used to burn disc - Optiarc DVD RW AD-7530B ATA Device thanks again Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/208628-snowosx-on-compaq-c701ea/#findComment-1393636 Share on other sites
2600MHz
You didn't get the mobo in there, may I recommend installing CPU-Z instead of using Device Manager? Gives better info. Fixing your Kalyway install might help, but I'm not too sure in your case, since you don't need to use Disk Utility to build a custom install if you already have a distro. Then again, it could be that your hardware isn't compatible with what you've downloaded, but I'll only know once I get the full specs from CPU-Z. ha8ut
gotcha , http://lifehacker.com/5351485/how-to-build...start-to-finish , go down to the center of the above pg and just follow step one. when you re start after install hit f9 and find the thumb drive and away you go.

Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/208628-snowosx-on-compaq-c701ea/#findComment-1394184 Share on other sites

2k8
hey ha8ut, thanks a lot for the help so far got it installed finally thanks to u i boot up now and have to boot through -v (otherwise it causes a kernel panic) the resolution is less and i cant find the right kext for my intel 965 gpu anywhere. did u have the same problem, if so, what did u do? also, i obviously cant use audio - where can i find the right kexts for this thanks again UPDATE: Just updated through Software Update to 10.6.2 as i had read that it has full support for intel 965 (x3100) Getting a dsmos related kernel panic just as i boot. tried the IOATAFamily patch, still same problem, can anyone shed some light on my problem?
