I have successfully installed iATKOS V7 on my P5Q motherboard.

There are just two problems that I can't resolve

- It take approx. 10 minutes to boot to Mac Os X (but after the system function at normal speed)

- My DVD drive is not working (not recognize)

Here is my config:

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400

Asus P5Q

4 Gb

Nvidia 9800 GTX

SATA 2 Drive in AHCI Mode

DVD Drive (IDE)

Bootloader: Chameleon V2

X86 Patchs : Extra Directory, DSDT, Apple Decrypt, 9.7.0 Kernel Voodoo, disabler

Drivers: NVDarwin 1.2.5; AHCI (SATA/IDE); Voodoo HDA Driver (sound)

Can someone help me?

It seems that I will not succeed in making Mac Os X work on P5Q without flashing my motherboard with a modded bios.

But where can I find the lastest modded bios available for my motherboard? And are those modded bios stable? I am a little worried to use a modded bios...

sorry forget my reply about the modded bios, it seems that with new chamelon loader and DSDT patch, there is no need anymore for modded bios.

But I stil have my very slow boot problem, here are the details of my boot:

1) I boot in verbose mode, it boot normally during 1m30 and end up on that line

...InterfaceNamer - timed out waiting for IOKit to quiesce

2) A black screen appear and my computer do nothing for 5minutes!!!

3) After 6m30 (always the same timing) the desktop appear and the system work well

Does this informations give somebody a clue about what my problem can be?

Hackintosh club rule number one: know your hardware

Hackintosh club rule number two: keep IOKIT happy!

I couldn't say what it's complaining about without more info but one thing you could try is disabling on-board hardware (LAN, Sound, Firewire, anything, even hardware you wouldn't want to disable) one by one and see if it the situation improves. If you can get the errors to go away by disabling a certain device, that should give you something to go on. For me, I've only seen IOKIT errors when something was "almost but not quite working", so you probably just need to find a working driver for whatever hardware is causing problems or you can keep it permanently disabled if you don't need it. But I'm just guessing, it could be something else.

Maybe you can find more clues as to what's going on in the system logs - navigate to Applications/Utilities and run Console to view them.

If you dig a little deeper you'll find something that's nice to have installed when troubleshooting hardware issues (and when working with DSDT Patching) is an app called IORegistryExplorer. You can google a stand-alone download of it or you can install Apple Xcode, it should be on your OS X installation DVD or you can download it from the Apple Developer site.

If vanilla P5Q is anything like P5Q-E, to get your DVD drive working you probably need AppleVIAATA.kext. Be sure to get a recent version of it to avoid the 64-bit addressing bug that causes crashes with older versions. Look in the Hardware drivers subforum under drive controllers or just plain google it.

For other P5Q series owners passing by this thread: The above only applies if your board has a Marvell PATA controller and the DVD drive is connected to it.

If your DVD drive is SATA forget about AppleVIAATA and just make sure it is connected to one of the red ports on the motherboard, then it should work.

Thanks for your reply.

The AppleVIAATA.kext works well for my DVD drive

For my black screen / long boot time :

- I have disabled all my on-board hardware (Marvell IDE, Firewire, integrated audio and integrated LAN) but it changed nothing.

- Then I disabled completely USB, still changed nothing.

- Here are the lines of my system.log that happen during the long pause:

Enable ACPI 2.0 in the BIOS, it's under Power Settings.

In OS X, go to System Preferences, Sharing and give your Hackintosh a name.

The Realtek LAN, is that built-in or a PCI card? If it's a PCI card, try pulling it out and get your on-board LAN working instead.

What LAN hardware is on the vanilla P5Q?

If it's Marvell 88E8056, it's really easy to get working with OS X' own drivers, all that's needed is a device ID and name modification. Performance is a lot better than the 8139 too.

I can't seem to find my Legacy kext for the 88E8056 that I used with 10.5, so I've attached the one I'm using in Snow. I don't know if it will work for you. If not, you should have no trouble finding a working version for Leopard by searching the forums.

There's also a guide on how to modify the AppleYukon2.kext inside IONetworkingFamily.kext somewhere, if you want to do it yourself. You need a plist editor to do this - again you can download Apple Xcode or find a stand-alone version via google.

This kext will only work in /Extra/Extensions.

LegacyAppleYukon2.kext.zip

Visit this thread to learn how to set the 88E8056 as En0 and 'built-in' via DSDT (you still need the kext):

projectosx.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=60 (can't post the whole link here so just stick a www in there)

Use DSDTSE from Evosx (google it) to compile/decompile and hand-edit your DSDT.

Or you can update your Chameleon installation and set EthernetBuiltin=yes in /Extra/com.apple.Boot.plist to do the same thing.

Visit the VoodooProjects forum to download the latest version and whatever else you might need. Say hi to Gringo Vermelho from me.

Thanks, but the LAN Card inside P5Q is an Atheros. I mange to get it work with AttansicL1EthernetV2.

The Realtek Card is a PCI card. Removing it doesn't change anything.

And enabling or disabling ACPI 2.0 in the BIOS doesn't change anything too :(

I have two computer with a P5Q motherboard (one in home, the other in work)

First computer :

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400

Asus P5Q

4 Gb

Nvidia 9800 GTX

SATA 2 Drive in AHCI Mode

DVD Drive (IDE)

Second computer :

Intel Core 2 Duo E5200

Asus P5Q

4 Gb

Nvidia 9600 GSO

SATA 2 Drive in AHCI Mode

DVD Drive (IDE)

Both have iATKOS V7 installed with:

Bootloader: Chameleon V2

X86 Patchs : Extra Directory, DSDT, Apple Decrypt, 9.7.0 Kernel Voodoo, disabler

Drivers: NVDarwin 1.2.5; AHCI (SATA/IDE); Voodoo HDA Driver (sound)

And so both avec the same problem, that damn 6 minutes boot time with a black screen.

So after all the things we try, don't you think it can be a problem with the driver for my graphics card. I use NvDarwin 1.2.5 and I have tested NvInject with the same result. Both card use the DVI out.

It's possible.

Try deleting your injector (NVDarwin/NVInject) and set GraphicsEnabler = Yes in /Extra/com.apple.Boot.plist.

You can also try NVEnabler - get it from the ProjectOSX forums.

When you disabled devices in the BIOS to troubleshoot, did you disable Firewire?

Open System Profiler and see if all of your devices are listed. If something isn't listed there, or only partially listed, try disabling it in the BIOS.

Which one is EN0 and Internal (Built-in) - the Atheros or the Realtek LAN?

Look in System Profiler.

I have totally removed the PCI Realtek lan card and set the Atheros Built-in to en0. That's good

I have removed the VoodooHDA driver and now I use the ACL1200 driver. Now my mic work

And I have already try to boot with Firewire disabled, but still that long boot time... :P

In my system profiler two things seems curious:

- PC Card : No information found

- PCI Card : It seems that you don't have a PCI card

Now I have no PCI Card, but when I haved my Realtek PCI Card inside, I used to get the same message.

Maybe I have a problem with my PCI controller drivers? What do you thnik?

I still have to test your instructions for my graphic card, but here is the information for my graphic card:

The cool thing about the 9800 GTX is that it works with unmodified OS X drivers, you only need an injection method (Injector kext, DSDT patch or Chameleon)

It looks like it's working correctly for you with NVDarwin, even though it is a very old injector. But who knows, it might be part of the problem.

You can try what I posted (GraphicsEnabler=Yes or NVEnabler) at least it shouldn't make anything worse. btw NVEnabler is the only way to get working analog TV-out currently.

I'm curious as to why you are seeing "PC card" in System Profiler on a desktop PC. What model identifier are you using? I hope you are not using a laptop ID (macbook, -pro, -air) on a desktop system. This will cause problems for sure.

PCI cards not showing is normal, this requires DSDT patching and then it would probably be a good idea to use a model identifier of a Mac that has PCI slots (Mac Pro).

What type of SMBIOS injection are you using? Chameleon /Extra/smbios.plist or SMBIOS injector kext?

I've tried to remove IOPCCard.....kext and IOPCIFamily.kext, it changed nothing.

My computer is identified as a iMac

What type of SMBIOS injection are you using? Chameleon /Extra/smbios.plist or SMBIOS injector kext?

Chameleon v2 and /Extra

And after installation I added the SMBIOS (don't remind the exact name) that set my clock RAM speed correctly.

I've tried to install Ideneb 1.51 and 1.6 Lite. After the install I'm stuck at that line

Mac framework successfully initialized
Using 16384 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers

when searching in Google a solution for that and P5Q motherboard, all people says that the P5Q must use a modded bios to bypass this error.

I'm really lost because in some post I've read that since the DSDT patch where is no need anymore to use a modded bios....
