looking for a laptop, and bought a new desktop mobo

hello osx86 community. How i have missed you! I just purchased a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L rev2.0 to replace my evga 680i. most will say this is not an upgrade, however i do believe it is when i want to run osx86

 

So that question is was it a good decision to buy?

 

 

Second question, I just won 500 on a local news program pay it forward program, for school. I have been needing a new laptop. Can anyone recommend one that will run osx86 flawlessly (ie video, sound, chipset, keyboard, webcam, sleep, (bluetooth, and auto update i could care less about) as well as ubuntu in dual boot? I plan to use osx86 for everything but my computer repair jobs, in which i will use ubuntu. 500 is the price range, however a little over shouldnt be to much of a problem Only requirements i have is a intel core 2 duo, and 4gb of ram. gpu is not important, as long as osx86 will fully support it.

Kind of a two-part answer. Since you no doubt already have the CPU and RAM, then yes, that's an excellent board for Hackintosh that depending on your components can make for a very fast Hackintosh.

 

However... if someone were buying it now to build a system from scratch, I'd say no, not a good decision if the parts ended up costing close to a current gen P55-based system.

 

Since you're swapping mobos and no doubt using parts you already have, then it's great. I've set up several of that exact board and it will run the latest OSX Snow Leopard great, is rock stable (if set up correctly that is), and performs about at the level of a 775 single-Xeon based Mac Pro, which is to say, pretty damn good for the money.

 

Hopefully you have a OSX compatible graphic card, but then that's something you'll need to buy no matter which socket type.

 

Personally, I don't know much about laptops for Hackintosh.
