Hi guys, I've been trying to do this for... months, maybe even years now and I've finally managed to get a semi-working copy of OSX on my laptop which is an ASUS X59GL.

I wanted to detail what I did to get it working and some research I've done, maybe to help some other people with similar chipsets or even the same machine!

Before you install, you have to change the SATA mode of the hard drive within the BIOS, smack f2 when the laptop boots up and go to IDE configuration, change it from compatible to enhanced, or if it's already on enhanced... leave it ;)

Ok so to start, I used iAtkos 10.5.7 installer, to get it to install hit f8 at startup and enter:

-v cpus=1

This will get you into the installer, you'll have to format a partition (I had windows 7 installed first, and I can dual boot as long as I change the SATA mode in the bios first) so check out a guide for doing that, the search button is your friend!

In terms of installation options doing this worked great:

- Everything that is default, leave on

- enable Voodoo ps/2 driver with trackpad

- enable Laptop Battery

- enable USB

- enable NVinject to get it all working correctly. The mac thinks it's a 9200m when it's actually an 8200m but it's quartz extreme enabled and you get a proper resolution.

Ok let the installer do it's thing and once it reboots, remove the CD and it should (fingers crossed) boot into OSX!

Some things that do not work or that I've had trouble with:

Audio... I can't even seem to find any details on what audio card this laptop has in it, I'm led to believe it's an ALC660 but that could be completely wrong, any and all audio drivers I've used have failed/10 so yet to get that working. A workaround for now is a £1 usb sound card off ebay.

Wifi.. the atheros card in the laptop is just big fat unsupported within osx, lots of other people have changed this card out for a broadcom that is supported, I'm still doing some research if I can change the card to anything and what will work. Hopefully I'll just be able to switch it out and hey presto!

UPDATE: The wifi is now working, but only because I changed the adapter out to a Broadcom BCM4311 chip, very easy install and windows7 picked it up immediately as well. Airport works fully without any extra configuration natively.

Some other notes:

- Battery Indicator working properly

- Gestures work with the trackpad

- Both cores working inside OSX, along with the 3GB of ram

Some very useful tools to google for:

KextHelper, OSX86tools, NVinject

MANY MANY THANKS to the creators of iAtkos, KextHelper, OSx86, Voodoo, NVInject and all you lovely people here at insanelymac! As well as any others I've left out :)

Doesn't work for me. I also have Asus X59GL.. I also used iATKOS V7 10.5.7.

Booting the installer keeps hanging on.

any suggestions??

tried changing the SATA mode in the BIOS? I had to switch it to get the installer to work, also make sure that you're using the cpus=1 flag for the installer, -v to show everything thats going on as well. If you tell me where it's stopping maybe I can offer some more suggestions.
