I've installed 10.6 on my system based off of blackosx's wonderful guide here. Everything's going well except I have no folders nor half the drives showing up on my desktop.

NOTE: There should be approximately 10 partitions/hard drives/disks/what have you there

As you can see, there are files (names blocked for privacy sake) listed in the Desktop folder, they just don't show up on the desktop. The get info window in the upper left is what I get when I right click on the desktop and hit get info. If I do get info from within a Finder window, the details show up like normal. Any ideas?

Alright, so I discovered that it came from me mounting a partition as /Users and for some reason that partition keeps getting owners disabled, even if I have turned it on again and again. Every time I boot in, it lists Owners Enabled as no (found in Disk Utility). I'll run the following and get the output:

vsdbutil -c /Users
vsdbutil: Couldn't get volume information for '/Users': Invalid argument
vsdbutil: couldn't read volume UUID on '/Users': Invalid argument

so I'll put in the following and get no output

vsdbutil -a /Users

Then

vsdbutil -c /Users
Permissions on '/Users' are enabled.

Then when I reboot, I don't get the owners enabled. Interestingly enough, I will quit Disk Utility and reopen and it will stil have Owners Enabled as no.

I have the system mounting /Users folder with an /etc/fstab. It reads:

UUID=(way too long to type) /Users hfs rw 1 2

Any other ideas? I really don't wanna give up the separate partition for Users as I've had to reinstall things so many times...
