sorry vinnie. when i read your post, i didn't see the question at the bottom. The IOATAFamily.kext fixes an issue with OS X recognizing the hard drive controller properly, I don't really think there is a permanent fix for this. Although, the kext you are using is actually one from tiger if you used the one in my guide and on taranfx's website.. (same one). I don't see why it would just "NOT Work"... but I would wait to see if anyone else comes up with a solution...

I was able to modify my dsdt and resolve this. I no longer need IOATAFamily.modification.

I posted a link how here.

looks good. I've stopped hackintoshing for awhile. Even though i hate windows, i've decided to put 7 pro on my dell so that I can play games, at least until steam is released for mac this month. I have my macbook pro for that after the release!! :censored2:

Definitely might reinstall SL on the dell though so that I can try your steps. I always wanted a vanilla install...

keep up the good work..

Can this guide be used to install snowOSX on dell vostro 1014.

specs:

Intel core 2 duo 2 GHz

2 gb 667 mhz ram ddr2

240 GB HDD

dell wireless card

boradcom ethernet

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X4500MHD

any help??

sorry it has taken me so long to reply... I have been busy with school. Anyways, I don't see any reason you wouldn't be able to load snow leopard on that machine. The only issues I see are with the wireless and the video drivers. You may need to dig around a little to find ones that work for you. I did see a post about the 1397, which said something or other about a broadcom enabler, might want to check that out. Also, your video card doesn't have an official kext yet, though a group of guys on this website have made great progress and actually have a patch that will give native resolution, but no QE or CE, which makes the driver pretty useless. You can check them out if you feel like seeing if they found a fix anytime soon...

Cheers

-Josh-

the main issue inspiron 1520 has is the "secondary ide channel disabled".

can be fixed in DSDT with ide timing register fix.

i usually make a usb with chameleon2 and dsdt .. im ready to rock.

here is my current 1520 dsdt (bios A09 2gb ram but 4 should be ok .. dynamic code) sleep works. fast restart works if no sleep performed. audio is AZAL not HDEF (to work with voodoohda)

has AIRPORT in WWAN slot aka RP01 airport is faking sub-vendor of apple AR9280 (0x8F) works perfect for Atheros device id 0x2A (most sbvendors supported by 10.6.x)

USB fixed also.

pretty much vanilla all way

(was able to install from plain USB 10.6.0 untouched: fakesmc 2.5 with no plugins in EFI of hard disk and. booted from HDD with chameleon2 and EFI /Extra dsdt and fakesmc)

after update to 10.6.7 wifi works perfect

(all switches off in bios for wifi.)

if you have a bluetooth dell 355 and it doesnt work. its not switch. its firmware issue of device ..

vista can turn it on.. xp cant: fix with windows or bartpe like cd run dell file R159805.exe

after that bluetooth light is on.. permanent fix but some report in vista it wont reinstall driver properly

heres my current 10.6.8 dsdt with smbios.plist (change serial by a digit in ending 3 digits. if you use teamviewer and its blocked)
