Not able to take screenshots / blank image

Hi!

 

I installed Snow Leopard 10A432 Universal with no problem. I removed DSMOS and used FakeSMC and have upgraded to 10.6.2. Everything is functioning except that I can't take screenshots with grab. I can't send screenshots to the clipboard. I've tried:

 

1) to delete the Grab.plist and the screencapture.plist (Grab.plist regenerates after reboot, screencapture.plist stays missing)

2) reset my keyboard settings

3) manually capture on Grab.app

 

Also, I can't open image files with the built in applications. For example, I can't open a JPG file with Preview, but it works with Safari and Photoshop CS4.

 

I appreciate all your help! Thanks in advance.

 

Side Note: I wasn't able to use Grab from the initial install. Also, the clipboard can store images because I can copy contents of an image file in CS4 and see it in the clipboard, it's just screen captures that have issues. Is there some type of drivers i'm missing or services/processes? Any ideas?

all give me the shutter sound, but nothing in clipboard or on desktop.

 

The terminal command:

screencapture -iW ~/Desktop/screen.jpg

screencapture -c (this has the shutter sound, but nothing gets transferred to the clipboard.)

does not create anything either.

I just installed Snapz Pro X and when I snap screenshots, I get the same white blank image as I do with Grab. Something is definitely wrong with the built-in screen capture, but I don't know what to check for or how to resolve the issue. Please help!

 

Preview has a built-in option to take screenshots when I use that, it says Preview quit unexpectedly.

Yep, I'm having exactly the same problem. Blank / grey screen in Preview and crashes when I try to use the built in screen capture.

yeah, it's video card related. which card are you using? mine's not supported yet. maybe in 10.6.3, waiting for the update.

 

i installed via snow leopard osx 3.5 Gold Master Universal, but i think i'm just going to use retail DVD and use latest chameleon loader and make everything legit! i'm waiting for 10.6.3 to be officially released and then i'll work with it and post details. ;p

I've got it working! I am using Chameleon and the retail install of 10.6.0. I realised that even though it was all looking perfect, the video card was not supporting QE/CI which is Apple's video acceleration.

 

Easiest way to test - open Chess and see if you can move the pieces. If not, QE/CI is not running.

 

I upgraded to 10.6.2 and then followed the instructions in this thread - I've got an ATI Radeon 4870, not a 4890, but it all worked perfectly first time.

 

I can now view pictures with Preview and take screen captures. I think these issues were all caused by lack of QE/CI support, so I'd start your investigations there!
