getthedrift86
I have been using os x 10.5.4 on a vostro 1500 for some time with very few problems (needed hot corner for display to be seen, sleep did not work). Because of the lack of problems I had not upgraded osx since the install. However, recently there has been software that I wish to install that requires later versions of osx, therefore I attempted to upgrade. I recently upgraded my installation from 10.5.4 to 10.5.5 and then 10.5.6. The installation to 10.5.5 went smoothly, however, afterwards I could not run any programs. I then immediately upgraded to 10.5.6 and again everything was ok upon reboot. I then tried to install the dell specific packages from the Dell 1525 Driver package (Audio Codec, Card Reader, Power Management, Samba, Sleep Display trick, Time Machine Fix, Usb, Wifi). I then ran the Dell laptop post-installater for 9228 fix and sd reader. Lastly, I repaired permissions and rebooted. Upon reboot, the screen still didn't show up and I assumed that the sleep display trick did not work. However, I was not able to use my hot corner to wake up the display. I plugged in an external monitor and saw the boot splash frozen. I then rebooted with the external monitor connected and I receive a screen with the same background as the osx installer. The mouse works but that is all. Does anyone know what has gone wrong?
