Hi guys!

I'll introduce myself first since this is my first post here. My name is Coen de Winter, and I am a 22 year old mechanical engineer. I work in the luxury yacht industry designing all sorts of fun systems, and I work at Racing for Holland in the workshop helping with set-up and maintaining our racing cars.

Now because of my work as a mechanical engineer I have to run 3D software as smooth as possible, so I really do need my windows install. However a friend of mine uses a macbook pro running snow leopard. I really like that and I would love to run it at home. :)

I have the following setup:

Asus P6T Deluxe V2 Motherboard

Intel core i7-920 Processor

6GB DDR-3 Memory

Ati FireGL V7200 OpenGL Graphics card with 2 monitors (1920x1080 & 1440x900)

Phonic Digitrack USB external audio card

Logitech MX Revolution mouse

3DConnexion SpaceNavigator SE 3D mouse

Logitech Quickcam S5500 webcam

Could anybody tell me if this setup will run snow leopard without bugs? (which is why I want a Mac install in the first place)

I've already seen that this motherboard and processor will work, but I'm scared for my audio and video...

Thanks in advance, and sorry about the endless story... :P

If you know your processor and Mobo work, you're pretty much good to go. It's usually people with factory computers that often have KP problems, but with a well supported Mobo, you will probably have a large community for future upgrades and updates ^^

lets see now...

RAM: really there's zero risk for RAM, just make sure you can boot into 64-bit Snow Leopard to access all 6GB of it.

Graphics: Really the only way to get definitive answers to your GPU is to start 'er up and see how she handles under the pressure of OSx86. Make sure you start with only one monitor attached at first, lets not get too hasty now. If you KP, are stuck in 1024x768, animations seem jerky, or the menubar cannot become transparent, you might need to patch your Card to unlock it's full potential. Google is the best resource here.

Audio: USB cards generally work flawlessly on a Mac,. should have no problems here.

Mouse: the MX revolution has no problems (I sometimes use it ;)). Your 3D mouse lists OS X Tiger as a possible system requirement, so probably working out of the box there.

Webcam: If it's USB, it should work. I have a crappy webcam built in to my Dell monitor that was recognized as an iSight cam on initial setup.

Like I said, no harm in just going for it and seeing what happens, just make sure you install to a blank Hard drive,a dual boot with an Windows NTFS partition on the same disk is just asking for trouble. Also, invest in a portable hard drive, as you will be backing up and cloning your drive. Time Machine used alongside Carbon Copy Cloner is an absolute lifesaver in the world of OSx86. yes, there's a little redundancy and wasted space, but you will need it.

Welcome to a brave new world my friend. You'll like it here ^_^
