TheRealPorkchop
I saw something similar in another thread but I wanted to start my own as not to hi-jack anybody or derail a thread. I installed iPC 10.5.6 PPF5 Final, used iDeneb Combo Updater to get to 10.5.7 and then used their next Delta Updater to get to 10.5.8 successfully. Well, I say successfully, it takes a long time to finally make it back to the login window. But regardless it boots back and seems to be running OK, though I haven't really tested it yet. My whole quest for 10.5.8 over 10.5.6 was rather stupid, Safari 4.0.4 - yea. Now, I was curious to see what the updater would pull in so I fired it up and I've attached a pic of what the update window contained. I know from past experience just tinkering and messing around with this that you don't want to install the security updates. That is, you don't want to do them and just think all will be well and you'll reboot and be off and going again. But what about the other stuff in the update window, what is safe to install and what is not? I have Time Machine backups of my 10.5.6 install, 10.5.7 install and I'm going to make one of this 10.5.8 install as well. But I'd like to keep going with my testing to make sure things are stable before I do another backup and I'd like to install these updates too if possible, if they won't cause issues. Thanks! Lord_Jeremy
Everything but the security updates should be fine. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/206739-updates-what-is-safe-to-install/#findComment-1382838 Share on other sites
TheRealPorkchop
Thanks, I appreciate the answer. I got a Time Machine backup so I guess we'll see and I'll report back just so everyone else knows for sure. I knew from experience that the security update was a bad idea. Don't know why I'm not getting emails for subscribed topics/replies. Nothing hung the spam/junk mail filter either. Thanks!
