nmarques
Hi all, I've been around the POSIX scene for almost 14 years, worked in the past with a whole lot of POSIX compliant systems from HP/UX, Slowlaris, Linux and *BSD, also some AIX in the middle. I've tried boot-132, but it doesnt work, so I went to take a peak in the commercial stuff available, REBEL EFI which is shutdown at the moment, but the boot CD is still working to perform the install. Install went great untill the last step where it tries to reboot the system. EPIC fail, though, booting in safe mode through Rebel EFI is still possible and the system is working ok. I would suppose that at this stage I would need to boot into safe mode and either install a new kernel or the modules that support my current hardware, this is where I actually need help. Replacing a normal Linux kernel or BSD is cake, does it work in the same was for Mac? Should I be working with vanilla kernel or is there another kernel hack worth compiling to replace the vanilla one? In addition I will also leave a list of my VAIO's hardware to check if someone has successfully installed it. I'm using Snow Leopard Retail DVD for install. VAIO VGN-NW21EF - Hardware CPU Intel Dual-Core T4300 @ 2.10 Ghz RAM SDRAM DDR2 (2 x 2 GB) / 800Mhz Graphic Chipset ATI Mobility™ Radeon® HD 4570 - 512Mb Dedicated GDDR3 USB Host Controller Intel ICH9 Network Adapters Atheros AR928X WLAN Adapter Marvell Yukon 88E8057 Ethernet Adaptor Firewire Ricoh 1394 OHCI SATA Controller Intel ICH9M E/M SATA Controller Vaio NW21EF SpecSheet: http://www.sony.pt/product/vn-nw-series/vgn-nw21ef-s Considering this hardware, can anyone provide me the name of the kernel modules required for this hardware? and if possible a brief description or link to documentation regarding the instalation of this kernel modules. I don't mind compiling them myself. Finally, since I have the system installed and bootable in safe mode, would it be wise to install Chameleon boot loader once the kernel modules for my system devices are present or keep booting with Rebel EFI or some other method? Thanks in advance, NM Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/206350-vaio-vgn-nw21ef/ Share on other sites
lecanar
Hi, I've got exactly the same laptop as you do. Thus I wondered how things were for you since your message. Did you find a solution? Did you gave up? I hope so And if you managed to do it, could you give me informations about how you installed Leopard correctly. Thx Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/206350-vaio-vgn-nw21ef/#findComment-1560604 Share on other sites
