HD4850 (HDMI/VGA/DVI) on 10.6.2

Hi all,

I have a PowerColor HD4850 512MB card with HDMI, VGA and DVI outputs.

My monitor is Dell 2209WA with DVI-D and VGA connections.

I installed Snow Leopard 10.6.2, removed 4500/4600 kexts, added legacy4800controller kext, and booted with Chameleon 2.0-RC4 with PciRoot=1 GraphicsEnabler=Yes.

* VGA works well (using VGA-VGA).

* HDMI works well (using HDMI-DVI).

* DVI doesn't work (using DVI-DVI). I get a black screen and the monitor enters power saving mode.

I really want to use the DVI output for this monitor.

In safe mode all outputs work (without QE/CI of course) so the solution is probably patching ATIRadeonX2000.kext.

Is any source code available for this kext? I know there are patched kexts from netkas so it must be possible :thumbsup_anim:

Other hints on how to get the DVI output working are welcome.

Note that I've already read all HD4850 posts in these forums.

Thanks,

Roee.

Try to set your resolution to any of SVGA ones -- up to 1400x1050 (erm... I previously stated it was 1680x1050, which is wrong). Suggest you to try 1280x1024 and check if you do have image.

If yes, then welcome to TOMBE club: The Owners of Monitors with Bad ECID Club.

If not, then... be happy with HDMI->DVI cable. It is still digital and should provide no visual differences from plain DVI.

Thank you for your answer Alex.

The DVI output doesn't work in any resolution and since it works using HDMI->DVI I'm quite sure the problem is the graphics card's driver and not the monitor.

If I had the source code of the driver I believe I could fix it.

For now I'm indeed happy with the HDMI->DVI cable :)
