Lanceomni
I want to install 10.5.6 on PowerEdge 400sc. Can someone point me to a simple guide that works. I tried installing with iPC 10.5.6 but it went into infinite reboots. I have 3 of these machines and had 10.5.8 up and running but didnt get QE/Ci supported on the particular graphics card that were in them. I do not know of any guides out there but ill try to help if you like. I was considering purchases a compatible graphics card and getting one of them up and running. You will want to get the 400sc' specs in your signature so that people can better assist you. The PowerEdge 400sc uses the Intel 875P Northbridge and the ICH5 (82801EB) Southbridge. These chipsets are more useful in researching as there are probably several hundred if not thousands of computer models using these same chipsets. I will try to dig up my records to find the rest of the information such as ethernet and audio chipsets. Do you which processor it has? that model came in a Celeron or P4 processor. Older Celeron's that do not have SSE2 instructions will not work. If I recall correctly I did have a bit of a time getting past the restarts as you described. Ill check my notes to see how I got around that. Likewise on the subject of graphics cards. Most plugin cards will work with OSX in VESA mode which means it works but the kicker is "hardware supported acceleration" You need OSX to be able to take advantage of the graphics card's features. Mainly Quartz Extreme and Core Image (QE/Ci) Without this support you are pretty limited in the programs you can run along with video playback. If you are going to go with a prepatched Install disk like iPC Id try iDeneb 10.5.8 as you shouldnt have as many updates. So I would do the following. 1. Find which processor you have 2. Find out which graphics card you have. If you open the machine up copy down all the info from the card. Manufacturer model number etc. 3. Get a copy of iDeneb 10.5.8 properly burned and verified. 4. Get a sheet of paper to make detailed notes of each of your attempts. Get back with me on the above. I also have an old 400sc I want to run leopard on (I already have an i7 that dual boots Windows 7 and Leopard so I know how to fix most problems), but I cannot get iDeneb Lite version 1.6 (10.5.8) to finish installing. It always hangs up with "less than a minute to go." I am trying the plain install with no options selected, but it never completes the install. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
