M275
Hey all, So I tried installing Snow Leopard off a usb key for like 2 days, and no dice. So then I was suggested to use Boot 132 and Leopard - which I tried and it would give me errors before I made it to the install screen (this was all dos-like errors) so I gave up on that method. Then I asked someone who installed OSX on his Gateway M275 what he used, so I got THAT and I burned it, iPC ppf5. I followed instructions from every website, installed it about 8 times. The first few times it would tell me there was an error then it finally loaded! My computer restarted, and it just kept going into a loop - I'd see the apple screen, and then restart. Then It would go back to apple screen, and restart. So I did a wipe, reinstall. Error. Wiped again, reinstall. Tells me there was an error. Now when I turn my computer on, no matter WHAT I have in my drive, it just gives me a black screen after the bios screen and tells me: boot0: GPT boot0: HFS+ boot0: error Now, I have been searching for quite some time now, and everyone is giving suggestions about doing things in menus and such - I should make this clear: I can't get to any menus other than a bios page (with VERY limited options, thank you Gateway!) and a black screen that tells me boot0. Now, I know it can be done because it's been done, and it's even on the WIKI, but when I was installing the iPC, I couldn't find anything on the wiki that gives me my hardware specifics, not even when I searched here. So now what do I do? A once-working XP tablet is a brick now. I need something to work. Can anyone help me? I feel sad. Thanks. M275
I should add that the error has been here all day - I can't get past that screen. It doesn't matter what I do - at this point I just want to get Windows back on here, but the DVD drive isn't letting anything load. I tried Ultimate Boot Disk and it does nothing. I'm stumped, and I'd rather have a working XP tablet than nothing that works at all. Can anyone help? srs5694
What you're seeing is a boot loader error. You can correct it be installing a new boot loader over that one. You'll need an appropriate emergency CD/DVD to do this. If you normally use Windows, your Windows installation or recovery disc should do the trick. You should be able to boot it and find an option to repair the disk. (I don't recall exactly what it's called.) Optimist (from Minnesota)
It was hard to tell from your posts how experienced you are, so I apologize if I am offering simplistic advice. I am just starting in this OSx86 thing myself, but have some experience with PC hardware and software. So, all the normal caveats apply. You say that you get past the BIOS screen. Does that looks normal? (No weird characters or cut off screens?) If Yes, then you probably haven't hosed anything except, of course, the file to boot XP on the MBR (Master Boot Record) of the hard drive. (And quite honestly, if that dismays you, you shouldn't be doing this sort of thing at all!) If this is the problem, and depending on how far you got, you may have to reinstall Windows from scratch or you may be able to write just a new (file to the) MBR. To do just the latter, put in the Windows Install disk (and set first boot to whatever device it's in) and boot into the Windows Maintenance/Recovery Screen. Once you get to the prompt, look for the command to write a new MBR. If you knew all of this, again sorry. If you didn't, again you might be way over your head here. I have quite a bit of experience with PCs and Servers and I feel very noob with this process. I should add that the error has been here all day - I can't get past that screen. I have quite a bit of experience with PCs and Servers and I feel very noob with this process. Thank you for your help. I used to be the "IT guy" at the office when things went wrong, and I used tobuild my own PC's from scratch. I've been using macs for about 8 years now, and to be honest, this is the first time I just felt beyond in over my head. I've been trying to get windows on the machine all day - finally I formatted it but now windows isn't loading. I keep opening more and more webpages because every step of the way I am running into some problem or another. Ideally I'd like to have OSX running on my machine. I'm going to give the Boot 132 a try one more time. The iPC is what screwed up my computer. As for logging into windows, the drive itself is one partition, so the only thing meant to be on it is OSX. As for installing windows again, this is day 4 and I'm still not sure what I'm doing wrong. I can get into DOS, I am trying to do it from a windows folder- I can get into setup - it says copying files and then it restarts and then nothing. Some people are just better at things than others. I'm not having much luck with this...I feel a fool! But thank you. Severnaya
Format your hard drive if u want to keep your information burn a linux cd. i'd recommend using knoppix or nimblex linux distros they can read the mac os x filesystem and you can recover your information onto a pen drive. To format your drive use the gparted live cd linux distro you can do drive operations on it. use the format tool and you can erase your drive and reinstall windows then look it over and see about mac os x. P.S. Your tablet is not bricked its just lost control of the drives in osx so it cant boot. Good Luck Severnaya Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/205029-i-think-i-completely-bricked-my-laptop-m275-tablet-is-a-paperweight/#findComment-1373223 Share on other sites
