I installed Snow Leopard with the guide on Lifehacker here. The system is working, though I do get slow-downs here and there that are mildly annoying. The worst problem I have is with my video card, specifically when running 3D games (World of Warcraft primarily). The system will give me extreme lag sometimes depending on how much is on the screen and then eventually will lock up and not even Force Quit works. When this happens, I have to reboot the computer. I have been looking to see if I can find any information on SL with the 8800GTS 320, but have not been able to. The other day, I noticed that my System Properties shows the video card with 512MB of VRAM instead of the actual 320. It seems that I have the wrong kext loaded, but nothing I have tried has worked. I have used the EFI string, injectors, etc, but nothing ever works. I have searched this site up and down and I am quite honestly lost at this point. I am also concerned that if the VRAM is set wrong if it's possible that any hardware damage could take place.

Could having it set to 64-bit affect this in any way? I didn't have any of these problems when I was running Leopard.

Thanks,

Scott

Sorry to bump this, but wanted to check to see if anyone has any advice for me. I've been searching for solutions to this for weeks and cannot find any. At this point am I better off going back to 10.6.1?

I'm having the exact same problem. I have the 8800GTS 320 as well and am seeing the same graphics problems. It should be noted that I do not have problems in Leopard (10.5). In Leopard I'm using the NVDarwin kext which works well. In Snow Leopard 64-bit (10.6.2) I started out using whatever was generated in DSDT which is when I too saw the 512MB discrepancy in profiler.

After that I generated some EFI strings both from 32 and 64 bit Snow Leopard and from Leopard. Each one was different but all reported the correct 320 MB of memory. However, I could not tell that any of the strings worked better than any other. I also somehow got NVDarwin working in Snow Leopard but didnt see any better performance.

From my testing, I'm seeing almost 10 fps difference between 10.5 and 10.6 in games like WoW. Also, Finder and Expose seem laggy and slow in Snow Leopard while nice and quick in Leopard.

I have debated on going back to Leopard but I really like some of the new features in Snow Leopard.

Long story short, im in the same boat as you.

I hope someone can come along and offer a suggestion that works!

At least I know I'm not the only one with this problem. Hopefully someone will have an answer for us soon. Thanks for posting!

I saw somewhere that you may need NVEnabler.Kext & NVEnabler64.kext for an 880 GTS. Not certain if this will help with a 320 or the 512 model.
