Skywise_ca
I'm slowly getting my mactel laptop going 100% and I'm almost there. About the only thing not working is playing videos. I've tried vlc and mplayer and neither works. VLC loads ok but when I start to play a video it pops up a blank screen for a bit then blows up with an exception error. mplayer won't even fully load, it throws an exception error right away. I'm guessing from forum reading that it's my lack of QE that's causing this, does anyone know of a video player that doesn't require QE, or an option in vlc or mplayer I can set so I can get video playing working? (the laptop is a compaq X1000 with an ATI 9200 mobility video card. Callisto has my ability to change resolution working, but no luck with QE) Sky Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/20414-playing-video-with-no-qe/ Share on other sites
Technobob
Have a look for this version of VLC it's the most stable VLC_20050924_x86 Did you remove the ATIRadeon8500GLDriver.kext it will cause problems with multimedia Also for me on my Ati Mobility 9000 Callisto kills full screen video playback Did you check to see if your device ID is in the info.plist file found in the ATIRadeon8500.kext Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/20414-playing-video-with-no-qe/#findComment-134688 Share on other sites
Skywise_ca
Ok, my 8500GL driver is still in place. And, my device ID is in the 8500.kext, is this good or bad? I haven't found that build of vlc, the nightly build dir just has this year. I tried moving the 8500gl driver away and it stopped the blowing up of the various programs. mplayer now plays way too slow (100%cpu) quicktime plays fast enough, but is all greens N reds (~50%cpu) vlc is just odd and can't play at all (prod version) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/20414-playing-video-with-no-qe/#findComment-134710 Share on other sites
Skywise_ca
Just found the magic version of VLC in this post: http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=13630 And it works perfectly, plays at full speed, and full screen even works. Thanks for the advice Techno! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/20414-playing-video-with-no-qe/#findComment-134726 Share on other sites
