Asus P5B-VM sata ports not working under SL 10.6.2

I installed SL 10.6 onto an Asus P5B-VM motherboard using a retail dvd but drives connected to sata ports 3 & 4 were not seen under DU. I upgraded to 10.6.2 via Software Update but the drives still weren't recognized. I examined the info.plist under IOATAFamily.kext and AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext to make sure that my device IDs (ven 8086, IDs 2820 for 2-port, 2820 for 4-port) were listed under ich8. I have tried various kexts from Netkas and this forum without success.

 

I'm running SL 10.6.2, 64 bit, c2d e4300, and Asus 8400gs.

 

If anyone has a potention solution, please let me know.
