dogcity
i had been looking to purchase a mac mini to connect to my Sharp lc-45gx6u, but now i'm thinking i may build a box to run OSx86 -- have a few related questions. can anybody suggest a near-100% compatible mb (915, gma900) that includes DVI out with support for 1920x1080? anybody try playing a TS (or any other type of HD file) using your OSx86 box, in particular using the x86 port of VLC? this is something that a mac mini cannot handle, so the ability to do so would be settle my decision to build one of these babies. thanks! madden
I've tried to do this from day one, record from firewire from my D-VHS and DCT-6200. The firewire seems to be working, I can change channels with irecord and can control the tape player with capdvhs, rewind, FF,stop..ect but when it comes to play .TS file or record .TS file I get kernel panic. Some software won't run, like VirtualDVHS that comes with SDK 20, will crash. I've tried 3 different MB and 2 firewire cards. I have no idea why this happends. I think I might have to buy a mac mini. Best of luck if you can find a solution. I've tried vlc and it was very slow frame rate, But I could not get QE enabled, I have 845 chipset. Is it the OSx86 or PPC build of VLC? Just FYI, I installed Fedora on a Dell Inspiron and got MythTV working successfully and talking to a DCT-6200. Then I installed the MythTV front-end on a PowerBook, and was able to interact with the MythTV server to watch live and recorded programming -- however, it was all pretty sketchy and unreliable -- the overall solution needs more work and polish. This was about 2 months ago -- may have come further since then. madden
Nope, not from vlc, it ran ok.. just without QE running, it was very jerky play back. But with DVHS I would not use vlc anyway, just stream back through DVHS to watch on tv. But no, vlc did not cause the panics, just when I tried to record from 6200 or play .TS file to DVHS I would get the screen to tell me to restart.
