technosadhak
I have just recently found out about the OSx86 project and am excited about trying it out. Here is my current setup: EVGA 780i MB Intel Q6700 8GB RAM EVGA 8800GT 3 x 500G Sata drives in onboard RAID 5 1 x 1000G Sata drive I am using a ToH 10.5 CD. When I try to install with no options I get a panic just before the GUI starts. If I use -x I can get to the GUI but am held up at the "Choose Destination" screen. No disks are listed on the screen. If I use the disk utility I can see all 3 500G disks but not as a RAID array. The 1000G disk doesn't show up at all. I came across a post that says it is impossible to install OSx86 on onboard RAID. I hope he's wrong. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get this installed? - Ryan Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/203871-leo-and-780i-w-raid-5-install-help/ Share on other sites
Iyerit
Nope, you can't install OS X to onboard RAID due to no drivers for it. Can't even access onboard at all. IF your onboard SATA/RAID controller just happens to be a Marvell chip, you might be able to get it to work (but no booting from it) with a hacked RocketRAID kext. Don't get your hopes up about anyone possibly making a kext for it, either, since everyone will just tell you to use OS X softraid (which can't be accessed in other OSes) or get a supported RocketRAID card ($120+, and no, the card linked to is not even true hardware RAID)... The single HDD might be connected to a different SATA controller than your RAID'ed HDDs, and said controller probably isn't being recognized by any kexts. For another thing, "ToH 10.5" sounds like a distro. Don't use distros.
