Hardware Specs: athlon xp 1800+ ati 9800 pro 768mb ddr ram 2 hdd's - 1 x windows, 1 x unformatted thx <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Simple answer: You cannot install on a SSE processor, and the Athlon XP is a SSE processor. Long answer: The commands for kexts and ATS/something else are failing with "Illegal instruction" because of the lack of SSE2. The kext services (or something else from /etc/rc.cdrom) are needed to create the ramdisk for /var, which it can't. Therefore, touch tries to write to the DVD's /var, which is mount read-only. Even if you did it get it to write, it would only fail later because of more things that cause "Illegal instruction" errors.
