I've used the search feature and I've posted about this in various places and still I've got no answer. First I want to say that I'm not exactly new to this, I've installed OSX on another laptop with great success. But it's time to move up to a newer and better laptop and I can't seem to get this to go.

The laptop is a HP DV6409wm. It's got the AMD Turion X2 processor, nForce4 MCP51 chipset. I've got the LAN and wireless drivers figured out, also the video. The problem that I'm having is at first just getting the DVD to boot. Regardless of which distro I try, I always have to use F8 and then -cpus=1 to get the DVD to boot. Sometimes the DVD still will not boot, it usually depends on with distro and whether or not I have a failed install on the hard drive already.

If I wipe the hard drive clean, then I can usually get a boot from the DVD and if the DVD boots then almost, always, I get a successful install. This is where my problems begin however...

The laptop is SATA. I've found no distro yet that actually states MCP51 for the chipset. I've found that only the VooDoo kernel is acceptable for this laptop, everything else seems to just give really bad results. Waiting for root device or endless reboots. If I just hit F8 and the -cpus=1 then usually see the white colored Apple screen and it basically hangs there. If I do -v along with -cpus=1 then I usually see the loading process and am usually returned with no device found which I assume is the SATA drive/chipset driver. I've tried the rd=disk0s1 but that doesn't seem to matter much either, it still tells me it can't find the drive or I assume that's what it's telling me. I've seen something about an invalid number or something for the firewire, which the laptop has but I pick for it to be disabled in the setup process. I still get that message sometimes.

Honestly, I get different error messages. So what I would like to know is if there is a fix/driver/kext or whatever for that chipset that I have. I'm pretty sure the processor is supported but I can't find anything about that chipset in the distros that I have. I've downloaded so many different distros that I'd have to go lay them all out to tell you which ones I have, and I will if I need to.

I'd appreciate all help and advice on this. If I could get it to boot into the desktop, then I'd figure the rest out if LAN or wireless didn't work, sound and all that {censored}. Right now I just can't get a boot from this thing and it's driving me crazy.

Thanks!
