kitty magic
hi, so i'm new to this whole thing although i have a bit of computing knowledge, basically i moved over to mac a while ago (macbook) now but after my pc getting completely clogged up again with windows rubbishness i decided i wanted to install ipc on it. i've downloaded iPC OSx86 10.5.6 PPF5 and burnt it on to a dvd-r and tested it on a sony laptop i had spare and the disk worked perfectly (or as perfectly as could be expected without having to mess about too much) i then tried it on my pc and it won't even recognise the disk as a bootable object even when i specifically tell it to boot from the dvd drive. i built the machine myself so it isn't any particular brand and although the hardware isn't very new any more, its by no means obsolete and as far as i could tell from reading various posts should work. the motherboard is a asus k8n and the possessor is a AMD 64 3200+. any suggestions would be very welcome Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/203483-install-cd-wont-even-boot/ Share on other sites
Beerkex'd
This can happen if your install DVD does not support the drive controller that your DVD drive is plugged into. If the DVD is PATA, jumper it as master device and place it at the end of the cable, unplug all other PATA devices and see if you can boot from the DVD. If it's SATA, you need to set SATA to AHCI mode in the BIOS. If it still doesn't work, try burning the install DVD again on the same DVD drive that you're going to use to install from. Burn at the lowest speed supported by burner and software. Chipstik
This is the problem that I'm having. The harddrive that i'm trying to install it onto is also IDE, and the CD won't boot if thats plugged in too.. Not trying to hijack the thread, just saying Oh also my mobo only has one IDE connector, so I have to have them on the same cable. Chipstik
Right try this. Set jumpers on your DVD drive to master, and the ones the hard drive to slave. Put the DVD drive at the top of the cable, and the hdd on the middle one. Also I kept my Sata drive plugged in, but I don't think it matters. Then go into windows, right click computer, and go to manage. Then under drive manager (or something) right click your IDE drive and select delete. It should then go black. Try restarting now and booting into the DVD. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/203483-install-cd-wont-even-boot/#findComment-1367377 Share on other sites

Disabling or uninstalling devices in Windows will not make any difference to anything that goes on when Windows isn't running.
