tomster2300
Alright guys, I need some audio help. This is my first hackintosh, and it's gone pretty well so far. I followed this lifehacker guide and substituted the extra folder with the one included in this install thanks to the advice from this poster. (That's a lot of this's). Everything is fully up and even updated - I'm running 10.6.2. with all updates and nothing acting weird. Except for the audio, which refuses to do much of anything. My system specs are - i7 920 GA-x58-ud3r 6 gigs ram Radeon HD4870 1 gb In system profiler I have - Intel High Definition Audio: Device ID: 0x1458A002 Audio ID: 12 Available Devices: Line Out: Connection: 1/8-Inch Jack External Microphone: Connection: 1/8-Inch Jack External Microphone: Connection: 1/8-Inch Jack Headphone: Connection: 1/8-Inch Jack S/P-DIF Out: Connection: Combo S/P-DIF In: Connection: Combo I have a logitech 5.1 surround sound system plugged in via the three normal 1/8" cords, all going into the back of the mobo. None of them are being recognized, and I have no options in either my input or output menus (I also don't have anything plugged into the above ports, which is probably why nothing is registering within my limited options). The extra/extensions folder came with ALC8889a.kext included, which seems to be the wrong kext for my board. I think it should be a ALC888.kext, but every one I try online bricks my system on restart. I get kernel panics, and even after removing the files and returning the originals it often stays bricked. That's when I do a complete image install (I've gotten in the habit of backing up the latest updated image onto my external for quicker start-overs). The majority of the options I've found have me replacing my AppleHDA.kext file, as well as the HDAenabler.kext, all of which have bricked my system as well. When it comes to editing kexts, I feel pretty clueless. I would love to be pointed in the right direction though. Should I be adding my device ID to the ALC889a kext, or scrapping it altogether for the ALC888? If anyone could give me some guidance on solving my audio problem I would be very appreciative. I feel like I have a solid setup at the moment, and working audio would be the final step in making my first build complete. Thanks! atlee
Have a proper look around the forum in guides section i have made a guide for UDR3 users, but there is rev 1.0, 1.6, 1.7 of this board. ALC889a and ALC888 on these boards, depends which rev you have, also i have a section under the Sound forum which also helps people with ALC888 get sound working. Tom Sawyer
Were you guys ever able to get sound working on the X58A-UD3R? It's the only thing I'm lacking and I've thus far tried everything I have come across with no luck. Getting close to just calling it a fail but thought I'd ping you guys on this before going to plan B. TIA!
