Hello. I am probably considered a newbie to most, but I have been following OSX86 and trying to get my AMD system up and running with OSX for the last several years. I've got JaS 10.4.8 DVDs laying around. I decided to check up on OSX86 recently and found out that since EFI bootloaders have been made available, you can get OSX going flawlessly on many Intel chips. I am seriously considering buying a new system (because My AMD dual core system is almost 3 years old and isnt very compatible). I spent some time looking through threads for compatible hardware and such. Is this for real? I can go to the store and buy a copy of leopard to install with vanilla kernel and it will work with windows hardware?! :)

I am not terribly concerned with audio support, or with ethernet support. This is because I have a PCI ethernet card that is plug and play with mac. I have had no problems with it in previous OSX86 installs on my AMD system. For audio I use an M-Audio Project Mix I/O http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/ProjectMixIO.html This has drivers for Mac because It can be used as a control surface/interface for Logic Pro, or ProTools. I use this with my ProTools M-Powered system. I plan to use OSX for mostly audio work so I hope I can get a system that will be blazing fast with an i7 and OSX. These are two big problems with finding a compatible board and I just wanted to make it clear that they will not be an issue.

Here is what I have picked out as of now:

Gigabyte Board

Intel Core i7

GeForce 9800GT

RAM

That's what I have picked out right now. Will I be needing a new PSU? I have a 500W 20/24 pin ATX PSU with 1 6 pin PCI-e connector and some SATA power cables and a bunch of peripheral. I might just get a new one so That I can keep the AMD system running because it is still a great computer. 3.2ghz dual core and 6gb DDR2 800mhz. not bad.

I look forward to hearing some advice on what I have picked out and whether or not is will be OSX compatible!

dont skimp on the power supply your going with new gear and all out at that ..so make it the best build u can do and yes the project mix will be fine. keep me up to date on the audio quality going in,

Dang. Sorry man some things have changed since I made this thread. I decided to go with getting some new mics to yield better recordings instead of hackintosh. I'm gonna be recording a band soon and I need to give them a good result. I think If I had the time to get a faster setup with a working vanilla install It would be MUCH faster than what I have now but I need to be getting ready for some sessions and not putting together and troubleshooting a whole new computer before tracking.

I like what's going on here and hackintosh is probably some where in my future but not right now :( I just wish I had payed more attention to compatible hardware (and gone intel core duo instead of AMD) and payd a bit more cash So I wouldne have to be buying a new system.

The audio quality going into OSX when I had an iDeneb 10.5.5 install working decent, but not flawless was great. Same as it is in my ProTools XP rig. :D

I don't know how much of an Audiophile you are, but I used some of the money on this instead :D

AKG C414
