Try cd-ing to /Volumes/HARD_DRIVE_NAME/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration and then doing 'vim com.apple.Boot.plist'. If that doesn't work, try 'nano com.apple.Boot.plist'. Either of those will open the Boot.plist file in a text editor so you can fix it. Good luck!
