inversation
Hey folks, Apologies if this is in the wrong section or anything, I grabbed the ISO and the Release1 patch, followed all the MD5's through to the final ISO, burnt, installed, rebooted, and I got that little circle with a line through it, verbose mode has the text 'still waiting on root device' repeating several times. The reason this is weird is because prior to this, I was using the deadmoo image and had literally no problems. I've got an intel i865P/PE/G/i848P chipset (don't know which specifically, that info is from CPU-Z), intel p4 prescott 2.8ghz, 1gig ram, and a nVidia geforce4 ti4200. The hard drive is just a 20gig PATA, and as mentioned above, has booted OSX successfully before. The hard drive has only 1 partition on it, taking up the full space, which I set up using the Disk Utility prior to installation, and has been formatted using Case Sensitive Apple HFS Extended with Journalling or whatever that one is. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might be able to fix this up so I can boot from the fresh install? All comments would be appreciated. Cheers, Aaron Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/2011-still-waiting-on-root-device/ Share on other sites
jb_
If you have any single drives on your IDE ports, make sure they are set to Master. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/2011-still-waiting-on-root-device/#findComment-13039 Share on other sites
inversation
Nope, i've got all 4 slots filled, 3 with hard drives, 1 with the dvdrw, and each one specified as master/slave. Exact same setup as I used with deadmoo. Very weird (to me at least) that a fresh install makes it come up with this.... Will try this as soon as I get a chance. I'll let you know if I ended up using it and whether it worked (trying a reinstallation first). inversation
Unfortunately I can't provide any help that works yet because I've had no luck even trying to reinstall. I was gonna load it up with the deadmoo image, then try reinstalling again since that worked last time, but the dvd seems a bit funny with my drives. I'll post something once I actually have a proper success or failure. thechung
hi, i had that problem as well, and after many many trial and errors, i have made it work!! I disconnected my other drives, and on one ide channel, put HDD as master and DVD as slave. (make sure they are both on same channel, ie same cable) Hope it helps, Thechung Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/2011-still-waiting-on-root-device/#findComment-16040 Share on other sites
