iPIT
Hello all, first post here. I've managed to install 10.5.7 using the iATKOS V7 build on my AMD rig. Thanks to all of the great info here! Only trouble I'm having is no sound. In 'About This Mac' under the audio section it just says 'no built-in audio'. My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-UD4H. CPU is AMD Phenom X4 940, 4 gigs ram and an ATI Radeon HD vid card. I couldn't get it to dual boot nicely with Win 7 so for now I just choose which drive to boot off of at start up using the BIOS. Any help with the audio would be greatly appreciated. I'm pretty sure I chose the Voodoo 9.7.0 kext during installation but not 100% sure... Lord_Jeremy
Have you tried anything to get audio working? I've had good experiences with VoodooHDA (check here but AzaliaAudio (or some permutation of that) also exists. I'd do some searches in google or on the forum with your motherboard name and some pertinent keywords to see what will work best. iPIT
after a bit of googl'in I tried the following which I found here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/lofiversi...php/t66344.html couldn't dl alc889a.zip from: http://rapidshare.com/files/51585161/alc889a.zip.html but found it elsewhere. followed these steps as outlined above: "use the ALC889A kext provided above... the kexts included in the zip should be ALCinject.kext and AppleHDA.kext copy both kexts into your System/Library/Extensions folder.... after you have copied both kexts into the folder do the following.. open up a Terminal and do the following.... Terminal is found in the Utilities folder... type in the following... sudo -s <press enter> <enter password> <press enter> chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/ALCinject.kext <press enter> chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext <press enter> chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/ALCinject.kext <press enter> chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext <press enter> rm -R /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache <press enter> rm -R /System/Library/Extensions.mkext <press enter> reboot <press enter> enjoi fully working audio... verify in the Audio Panel that you have fully working audio... " Both of those kext files were alread there but I replaced them anyway and followed the instructions, still no joy. still looking for an answer. Lord_Jeremy
Any chance you could tell us what type of audio your motherboard has? zero10
The Gigabyte site says it has ALC889A. I don't know much to help except to try loading the kext from the command line with the -t flag and look for error messages. iPIT
Yes, it has the Realtec ALC889A chipset. I've followed all of the advice I could find but still no sound. Lord_Jeremy
Drat. You might have to accept that there's as yet no support for your chipset. However, google found me this. Have you tried those kexts yet? EDIT: Checked your OP and I see you did try those kexts, but in the topic I linked to someone managed to get it working with some additional drivers. I'd give it a shot. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/201031-successful-install-1057-but-no-sound/#findComment-1358674 Share on other sites
webnetics
@ iPIT: Can you please explain how and what kexts you selected to get the OS to boot with iATKOS v7. I have the same motherboard GA-MA790GP-UD4H with AMD BE X4 955 3.0 GHZ, 8 GB RAM and Nvidia GTX 275 1798mb Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/201031-successful-install-1057-but-no-sound/#findComment-1383998 Share on other sites
webnetics
UPDATE: I was able to boot to the OS only in safe mode and the problem was that I had a kernel panic with a selected PS/2 kext so I used Apple keyboard fix instead. Of course there was no sound even though I used the ALC889a kext so hopefully this will be solved later on. I have another question: The reason I believe I have to boot in safe mode is because of the kexts involving my Video card (Nvida GTX 275 1798mb) Can anyone explain which kext to select under the iATKO v7 distro for my video to display without booting into safe mode? UPDATE:I reformatted again because all pkg installers would freeze and I had to force quit so now I cant even boot in safe mode anymore because I forgot which kexts I selected when I had successful boot. I just cant get the video to display. When I boot after the apple logo it goes to a light blue screen on both my DVI monitors then dark grey with a black mouse but nothing else happens after that. There should display a keyboard telling me to press some keys to identify region but it never comes up just a grey screen and the mouse. Please advise. Lord_Jeremy
For getting video card working I always stand by netkas and IIRC there are some 275 drivers/solutions somewhere on his site. Package installers freezing might be an out of date seatbelt.kext, did you update the OS version and forget to update seatbelt?
