After setting up SL vanilla on an USB disk as preparation for a "Use existing Mac" install on my Dell Inspiron 9400 laptop, I get a weird error.

The laptop boots SL nicely from the USB disk, still some tuning to do but it works.

But when I try to start any pkg-install, needed either to tune the USB disk install or to start installation physically on the laptop, it complains about the installer with this error:

"You can't open the application Installer because it is not supported on this type of Mac"

No other troubles starting any other type of application. That includes doing ".dmg" installs. Tried to google and search but nothing really related or helpful.

Anyone seen this before?

Hardware: Dell Inspiron 9400

CPU: Intel Duo Core 1.6 Ghz

Graphic: ATI Radeon X1400

Mem: 3GB

Thanks i.a.

had this happen the first time i installed on the mach in my sig, gave up on sl and went back to leopard then tried again a few weeks later with a fresh install and everything works now, couldnt tell ya why it worked but i would suggest trying to fresh install

click on the apple logo on left side of main menu bar, click about this mac. when the window opens click more info. if you dont have info there if you mac type is unknown then you need smbios.plist in your /extra folder.

sorry for the all low case, i am on my phone. we really need .mobi version of this forum -_-
