Hi,

I am attempting to install the Win 7 and OSX86 iPC 10.5.6 on my machine.

After reading wiki OSX86, iPC 10.5.6 seems to be the most reliable choice for my hardware setup.

Anyway, my setup is as follow:

Mobo : GA-EP45_UD3R

CPU : Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0 GHZ/6MB/1333

HD : WD 500G 7200RPM Caviar Black

Sound : Creative PCIe X-Fi Titanium

GPU : Palit HD4850 Sonic 512MB

Key & Mouse : Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 6000 v3

RAM : Team Group Xtreem Dark DDRII 800 4G

I understand that I would need to disable a few items from my BIOS, so as to ensure a smooth installation of OSX86 on my machine.

But before I go about doing that, I have the following question and hope some kind soul will help me with that.

1) Is there any preference which to install first? Win 7 or OSX86?

2) I am a little confused about the different partition format. NTFS, FAT32 and etc. How should I go about formatting my partition, so that I can access all partition from either OS with ease?

3) Is there any ways for us to customize the image of OSX86 with specified drivers before making it into a boot DVD?

4) After the OSX86 installation, and i re-enabled the components from my BIOS, will OSX86 still be able to boot up? And can I install the kerext subsequently to make it to work?

That's all for now.

Hope someone can shed some light on this.

For me it worked best having Windows 7 installed first and then partitioning that drive to make room for OSX. This is what I did (you'll have to use your disk # as it may be different, don't put the quotes and hit enter after every line):

run partition manager in 7

shrink partition (you can choose whatever amount you want)

DO NOT FORMAT THE NEW PARTITION!!

cmd

"diskpart"

"list disk"

"select disk 0"

"create partition primary id=af"---This makes that empty partition you just created in HFS+ format so that OSX will install on it.

"list partition"

"select partition 2"

"active"--This marks the new OSX partition active.

If you're starting from scratch, google about installing 7 without the hidden 100mb partition as it's not needed. Can't really help on your hardware as it's different from mine. Here's what to do after you install OSX so that you can get back into Windows, and then back into choosing which OS to boot:

you should have installed Chameleon or another bootloader with OSX (I suggest Chameleon)

Windows won't boot (or shouldn't) so boot from the 7 install dvd

select language and hit next

repair computer

command prompt

diskpart

select disk 0

select partition 1

active

exit

exit

Then choose startup repair and it should ask you to restart, do it.

If it doesn't boot right into 7 boot the dvd again and then get to repair and it should ask you to restart, do it and you should be good.

Once in 7 cmd

diskpart

select disk 0

select partition 2

active

exit

exit

After that you should boot into bootloader and OSX or 7 will boot from it. Again, your main disk may not be disk 0 and your partitions may not be 1 & 2, just use whatever they are. As far as I'm aware, the only way to access files of each OS on the other is to have NTFS-3G (or somet) installed in OSX and MacDrive installed on 7. Not sure about any of your other questions. Good luck.

thanks mike!

sorry for the slow reply, as i was getting a little dejected from the non-response, hence not checking back on this site.

anyway, thanks for the startup.

will soon start installing it once i'm done with the downloading, and will update you over here.

thanks again.

hi mike.

i was able to do my partition using the method you had taught me.

the installation of iPC was quite successfully and i followed exactly what you taught to repair my Win 7.

And I leave my OSX86 partition as active, since that's where the bootloader is located.

Anyway, I encountered some problem with my graphic card. I can only set my display resolution at 1024 x 768.

I'm using a Palit Radeon HD 4850 Sonice 512 mb graphic card.

I'd seen netkas post, but I can't seem to find the drivers. But even if I find it, I really have no idea on how to install the drivers.

And I'd tried this method, http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=155477

But what I got is black screen after my osx is loaded.

Can anyone advice?

TIA.

Happy Boxing Day!

I'm trying to dual boot with Vista not 7, but what I am stuck on doesn't concern that.

When I put in the Leopard disk (iatkos 7) it just will not allow me to install on any partition, even after doing the id=af command in windows.

I'm totally baffled, as it installed on my last HDD with no issue at all.

Any idea?

EDIT:I figured it out, nevermind.

I erased the partition having changed it in Disk Util to "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)"

This mounted the disk

And thus it was visible when I came to install
