B2TheEYo
Hey guys, Been dying to try this for much so a very long time but stuck on dial-up due to the new rural location 5 years ago. Finally got high-speed now (I am download hording like a {censored}!). I took a stab and downloaded iATKOS_v7 after a quick Google of people have success with this release on my notebook. Burnt it to disk and went at it. Got kernel panic errors left and right on the first gray Apple screen. Resolved it by disabling dynamic accelerator, speed step and the dual cores. Sometimes it worked with different combos. Pretty inconsistent. None the less I managed to get it installed and operating but the windows did not function properly when moved around or scrolled in. Clearly a (lack of?) graphics driver issue. Tried to find ways to install the driver but no luck, from the CD and on the internet, but it was overall unresponsive, or just not do-able, so I tried a fresh reinstall again and try different options in the setups custom dialog. Now it won't even pass the first Apple screen. The throbber just spins away for hours, now matter the tweaks, combination's or alterations I make to my systems BIOS settings. Anyways, could anyone suggest a Snow Leopard release that would operate with my hardware better? I can only assume a newer version works better - or am I so wrong it's sad. Once I manage to get OS X running, I may perhaps install Windows 7 again to dual-boot if I can figure it out, as it stands I'm seriously lacking in my Linux/BCD/OSX command limning. Than again if OSX turns out to be fully reliable or functional than I'll be glad to say good riddance to Windows entirely like I've wanted to for a very much long time. Configuration: Dell Inspiron 1520 Notebook Core 2 Duo T7300 CPU 2GB 667Mhz DDR2 Dual Channel Ram nVidia 8600M GT 256MB Graphics card Broadcom network chipsets 250GB Seagate Momentus Hard drive Everything seemed to have worked, network, sound, etc. Only thing that didn't work was the graphical issues. pdave54
+For your graphic problems try these links http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/lofiversi...hp/t115562.html http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/lofiversi...hp/t137047.html Re what version of snow leopard There are are not distros available like for Leopard (Well there is one from Russia, but it is not very successful) There are lots of tutorials for installing snow from an existing leopard install . Of course you will have to get back to when you could actuall get into leopard Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/199998-assistance-first-time/#findComment-1345468 Share on other sites
B2TheEYo
Thanks for the quick reply! I'll stick to what I got downloaded and burnt than if that's the case. As for the issues, for as much detail as I've given, any suggestions, tips or clue why I'm having these issues? Again, stock bios settings I was getting a kernel panic on the first Apple screen. With some tweaks, it would work but hang on the mentioned first page. I did manage to reinstall it but unfortunately it would keep bringing up the "needs to restart" page after install everytime i rebooted. I noticed something about hibernation, and a command. I entered the command "ForceWake=y" and it yielded no change. pdave54
Can't really help because as you said you have tried different combinations, and get installed & working (sans graphics). If you remembered which combo you had the most success with. I don't know what bios options for your hard drive you have but changing them may help. Maybe try another distro, IPC 10.5.6 final. There is this guide, not your exact model. http://www.insanelymac.com/2009/09/how-to-...iron-1525-1515/ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/199998-assistance-first-time/#findComment-1345495 Share on other sites
