Hi everyone. I spent the past 48 hours getting iATKOS 10.5.7 installed on my desktop. Since these forums helped me a great deal, I thought I'd share my experience to help anyone who may have similar hardware.

Motherboard: BFG Tech nForce 680i SLI

HD: 3 250GB SATA

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz LGA 775

Graphics: BFG Tech GeForce 7950GT 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16

Wireless: WUSB54GR Linksys USB Wireless Adapter

I didn't keep track of every error I received through the process, and I'm working from memory, but I will do my best.

Still waiting for root device (On DVD boot with -v)

I wasn't sure how to configure my SATA drives to get past this error. In the end, this is what I found:

  • Do not try to use the 680i motherboard RAID. Just disable RAID in the BIOS. All other settings can be left at default. I'm sorry, but I don't know what version BIOS I have.
  • Using a SATA DVD drive will give you this error. You need to use an IDE drive.
  • In my case, having only my SATA hard drives plugged in caused this error as well. You need to use an IDE hard drive instead. You can install onto your SATA drives, but you won't be able to boot without an IDE drive connected.
  • Using an IDE DVD drive and IDE hard drive on the same cable plugged into the primary (blue) IDE port is what got me past the error.

Installation

This is weird. What ended up working for me was something everyone everywhere says not to do. Every time I went through the installation, I clicked "Customize" and selected everything I thought I would need, including Voodoo 9.5 or 9.7. When I did that, the install either froze or rebooted before completing.

Finally, I installed without choosing anything extra in "Customize." I just left the stuff iATKOS had pre-selected. This worked and got me booted into the OS after reboot. It was exciting! After that, I booted from the DVD again, went into "Customize," removed ALL pre-selected stuff, and then checked off ONLY nForce SATA/IDE and Voodoo 9.7. Rebooted and everything was working fine. I went through a few errors after that as I was trying to add kexts, such as "You have to restart," the ACPI kernal panic, ummm, something about a boot-cache... Sorry. The fix to all of that was removing the last kext I added, repairing permissions, often by booting off the DVD and going into Terminal or Disk Utility.

Anyway, here are the customization options that ended up working for me:

  • iAtkos v7 Main System
  • Chameleon V2
  • Extra Directory
  • DSDT
  • ACPI
  • Disabler
  • USB
  • nforce Sata/IDE
  • Azilla Driver
  • nForce Ethernet
  • Post Install Actions

EDIT: For my graphics card, I had no idea what I was talking about when I first. posted I needed to use the 512MB help on this forum to get DE/CI working.

Thanks!

This board was a huge help to me as I went through the install. I didn't join or ask questions until now because I am too impatient to wait haha. Usually I just use the internet to get what I want and never thank anyone. But I had to this time. I might not check back after a couple days, so if you have questions, sorry. Google.

- NVinjector worked right away with no problems. That was after trying others:

- NVkush gave me the black screen

- NVenabler caused a boot problem, maybe a panic, I don't remember

Thanks!

Congratulations and what a great attitude

Thanks man.

Just a couple of new notes on this.

DO NOT try to upgrade like a normal Mac on this setup. I tried and it really screwed things up beyond safe boot and beyond repair permissions. I had to do it all over again and noted a couple of things.

I'm not sure that the NVinject that comes with iATKOS will work. I forgot to mention in the previous post that I got the newest one and used that.

Also, I use the Linksys Wireless USB adapter WUSB54GR and was able to get it working. I am attaching the DMG file I used because it was extremely difficult to find. You need to install it, then edit the Info.plist it installs, then do some permission stuff and reboot. It says not to post links to other tutorials from here so I won't, but I also don't want to copy and paste another guy's hard work. Just Google it.

I might!

Latest issue is freezing. I can't tell if the OS is locking up or if USB just stops working, because my keyboard and mouse are USB...

UPDATE: Removing nvenet.kext seems to have resolved the freezing issue. The thing about resolveing random system locks is that you never know if you fixed it until your system locks again =)
