vr00m
I've bought most of the parts for my new system except the motherboard and RAM. I don't care for overclocking the CPU or running games at 1600 x 1050 (even if its my native monitor res) a lower res is fine. I plan on running Snow Leopard only. The efforts at FTFF convinced me I won't go to 10.5 again. So far: Antec 300 case, OCZ 700W PSU, Core2Quad, 2 x 2 GB DDR2 1066, 2 x 500 GB Sata drives + 1 SATA DVD-Burner. What I need to get: MOBO - From what I've read, if I buy the GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R I should be fine. I'm going to pick it up this weekend. Pricing compared to other models is fine for me. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it. Video card: (I'm looking for something sensitive to my budget around $120-$150 CAD/US max if lower then even better) Playing a few modern games @ 1280x1024 at good frame rate fine. I don't care if its NV or ATI - support for OS X 1st - gaming 'benchmarks' second. I *need* properly support dual-DVI (monitors). I'm on the fence. I know there's a limited amount of chipsets supported by NV and ATI. From what I've read, if Apple ships with said chipset, its supported. The GeForce GT240 which fits my buget and probably my needs seems unsupported. I can't find any 8xxx model NV Cards at my local retailer. I'm not sure if the 5xxx ATI series are supported. I'm pretty sure any DX 10 compatible card, 512 MB+ Ram should be ok as long as it runs some decent frame rates for current-gen games. I won't be gaming much in next 2 or 3 years anyways.
