Hi everyone.

As a new user on this website, I have tried to find my way around, but I am finding it hard to find instructions on how to do stuff.. Mostly just "yes this works" or "use this and this driver", but no proper explanations for beginners.

I used the Kalyway installation and everything went smoothly, the machine is up and running as if it was never anything else.

But as with a lot of other people on this site, I am experiencing network issues, and after trying 3 different network cards and spending 3 days on google and this site trying to find out what I'm doing wrong, I decided it was about time to register and make a post.

My computer is an Asus P5KC with 4gb ram and 2Tb harddrive space, For now there's an XFX 8800 GTX card in it, but I've got other options if need be.

The network cards I've tried is the onboard Attansic L1, my "old" DWL-G520 (D-Link) wireless, and a brand new D-Link DGE-528T (Realtek 8169 chip). The closest I got to a solution was using the AttansicL1Ethernet.kext I found through these forums, but all that happened was that the card showed up in MacOS as "Cable not connected".

I also connected my cable modem via USB, but as that requires me to disconnect the rest of my network, it's not an option, even though it worked fine. (My cable modem has no router in it, and only distributes it's own IP, and is not shareable with anything else on the network without a router)

So.. What I'd love to have, is an instruction on how to get the network up and running (or at least try) Preferably with working links to things. Either of the cards above are acceptable options, and network speed is not the issue, as this computer is connected to my TV, and will only be used for random surfing, youtube etc..

Just the title of this tread seems to imply a demand. Yes research is hard work.

From """ut all that happened was that the card showed up in MacOS as "Cable not connected". """

I would guess that you will need to put "mach address" in manually

You can find the address in windows, or linux (live cd)

I am surprised that after 3 days searching you did not come across this information

Yes it is a demand, because after everything I have done, and looked for, I have only found two proper explanations on how to do things, and none of them was for my type of network card.

After 3 days of searching, I have not come across any information that implies that I need to input a mac address manually.. I know research is hard work, but it's even harder work when people explain that everyone knows everything from the get go.

Same as your post.. "You will need to put the mac address in manually", ok, thanks for that, but why not just give a quick explanation how I do it at the same time?

But at least I've got something to go from now.

Thanks for answering. :(
