Hey, I'm new to all this hackintosh stuff and I have a couple of questions.

First can I run OSx86 on my Gateway SX2800?

Full specs are here

Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33ghz

4GB RAM

Intel GMA x4500

640GB HDD

Intel G43 chipset

I have already tried installing it but after the install it just freezes at the grey screen, so what do I need to do to make it work? I am using ideneb v1.4 10.5.6. Also I am trying to dual boot with windows 7 if that makes a difference.

Thanks for the help ;)

I am interested as well. I just got an SX2800 for $300 for XMas (refurb). This would be the cheapest quad core Mac evar...

Have you tried the -v option when booting (press a button when the machine is first booting, enter '-v' at the prompt)? That will enable verbose mode and spit all kinds of stuff to your screen while it is booting. This helps because you can then tell where it is failing in the process.

If it's a 'waiting for root device' issue you'll need to make sure your nForce or SATA drivers are selected during the installation screen of OSX86.

I'm probably going to try installing sometime this next week.

I also have the same setup and I used empire efi 1.085 without any problems loading. I am working on getting everything working though. I am very new to this and am trying to get the right kext files loaded for video, lan, etc. I realize that the gma 4500 is an issue. I'm not sure if other things work or not, but I'll post up once I figure more out if it will help others.

The only issue I had was reformatting the hard drive to guid partition instead of mbr so my retail leopard dvd would install on a recognizable partition. I had to wipe out my vista in order to do it, but have recovery cds if I want/need to reinstall.

Below is my list of devices if anyone can lead me in the right direction:

Hey,

Have you tried using other install methods, such as "iATKOS V.7 Leopard 10.5.7" or "iPC OSX Universal 10.5.6" - iPC has a lot of kext's preloaded, i'm sure yours would work fine.

Check out iPC website, btw i recommend iPC because i've used it on two of my computers and i never had a problem, both of them had intel based chipset and dual cores.

http://######.com/ipcosx86/ - To download you may have to look around, maybe torrents or usenet if possible.

Hope that helps, good luck ;)
