Thursdayy
I am trying to find a comfortable o/s to be dedicated to. I love Windows 7 but I feel like it limits me on a lot of things [not many but some]. I love Ubuntu but its capture card support and video editing programs lack a lot that Windows (Sony Vegas) and Macintosh (FCP) have. This is what I would like to do: 1) Web Development (I have a macbook pro and I love a lot of the apps I have on it (Adobe Web Premium, Billings, Daylite, and Coda) Unfortunately, I don't have enough money to buy the Pro version and still have money for FCP. Therefore, Hackintosh might support this if it can support this case. 2) Video Editing (This is my hobby, I love to shoot and edit video. Right now I use Sony Vegas Pro and AE CS4 on Windows 7 to do this) Basically, I have a 1TB hdd that I formatted to have 700GB for Windows 7 and 300GB for Ubuntu 9.10. I LOVE ubuntu, I use it at work alongside Windows XP, but I hate the fact that it has minimal support for my capture card(Black Magic Intensity Pro) and video editing programs. Other then that, it is great to use as a sandbox for my web development. Windows 7 is great but I feel like I am missing something with it, I just don't know it (probably because of the Macintosh applications I have on my MacBook which are far superior to the Windows alternatives). Therefore, I was considering doing a Hackintosh. These are my computer specs: ASUS RAMPAGE II Extreme Intel Core i7 920 (might upgrade, depends if I want to) 12GB DDR3 RAM 1TB hdd (Windows 7 and Ubuntu) 750GB (back up harddrive, mostly for external media [pictures and ish]) 2x1.5TB (3TB Raid 0 from Onboard raid ICH10R) NVidia 8600GT Graphics Card (my bro has the NVidia 275 GTX [he is more the gamer]) Black Magic Intensity Pro Card Other parts I have laying around: ASUS P6T ASUS P5QL Pro I would love to triple boot (Windows 7 / Snow Leopard / Ubuntu) if possible. But Ideally I need a solid O/S (such as Snow Leopard) to record with the Black Magic Intensity to my RAID system. I would also want most of the functions to work (audio, LAN, wireless if possible [not picky about this]) Anyone have encountered or done anything to this extreme? My big concern is the video editing since web development and all other applications seem to work perfectly on any o/s. The difference is the video editing environment, which obviously is great for MAC's but I don't have 2500 more to spend for my hobby. Therefore, it would be great knowledge if anyone can guide me in the right direction. I am willing to buy the Snow Leopard Install CD and use a retail approach to installing Snow Leopard on ASUS Rampage II but I need to know what guide's to look out for and any advice from experience users that I might encounter. I am not that big of a n00b, since I deal with a lot linux/unix environment at work, but I don't have the time right now since I'm a full time student and working almost 40 hours per week. As a result, I have barely any time to be messing around but hopefully this winter break I would like to make this work. My concern is, can the hackintosh recognize a 3TB raid system? Can it recognize it if it is part of a dual or triple boot? I would love for it so that I can access my 3TB raid from either Ubuntu/ Windows 7/ or Snow Leopard (moreso Snow Leopard so I can make it my main O/S). P.S. - I read a lot of stuff on google and everything but have not started anything because there is so much information that I don't know where to start! Any advice would be greatly appreciated to help me start on my journey. Thursdayy
I read a lot of similar topics from that thread you posted. The thing is I am looking for other people's advice on this topic. To see if it is even possible and worth my time because that is one thing I don't have much of until the summer atleast. Thanks for your post, I'll consider reading the comments and see if anyone mentions anything remotely close to my situation.
