Although it's been posted before, the Linksys WMP300N gave me much trouble trying to install it on this Hackintosh.

I'll try to post all that I've done to get it working and hopefully it'll run for you too!

Preceding information:

Working install of Snow Leopard 10.6

Gigabyte EP43-UD3L

1.) Aquire a Linksys WMP300N PCI Wireless Card. The one I used was a refurbished product from Newegg for $20! The first revision of the product has a Broadcom Chipset which allows it to work natively with Apple's AirPort Menu. I couldn't find any distinctive 'REV.1' markings on the card, but it's ID in IORegistry was concurrent with other discussions (pci14e4,4329).

2.) Edit System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleAirPortBrcm4311.kext/Contents/Info.plist to include the ID of the card found in the next step.

3.) Insert <string>pci14e4,4329</string> after the <string>pci14e4,4238</string>.

4.) Save the .plist . I don't save from TextEdit directly, but instead save it to the desktop (don't forget .plist at the end of the name) Get Info the Contents folder (of AppleAirPortBrcm4311.kext), unlock privileges, drag file into folder, authenticate, and select replace existing file.

5.) The easiest thing to do is run Kext Utility. It will repair permissions of the Extensions folder, clear the extensions cache and rebuild the system's .mkext automatically. Or you could do it yourself. Thanks to the creator(s) of Kext Utility!

6.) *This is what got it for me* Boot with kernel flag -f (put in your boot.plist if your bootloader doesn't allow boot options) and you'll only need to do it once. Reboot.

7.) Be sure IO80211Family.kext is loaded by checking System Profiler>System>Extensions and shut down the computer when it's confirmed.

8.) Install the card into PCI Slot 2. If yours is in slot 1, it may not work. Boot the system.

9.) Revel in the glory of an empty baseball field picture or the grayed out lines of the AirPort menu bar icon. Click it and select the option to initialize the network connection in system preferences.

10.) Connect to your network!
