I have an inspiron 1525 and every time i try to install SnowOSX_Universal_10.6(432)GM_v3.5 i get to the darwin screen, and every boot option results in a black screen after all of the lines of code are done. It is about to boot into the installer, goes to a light blue screen for a second, and then goes to a black screen that can not be woken up.

Any ideas?

well actually that post pertains to a computer that successfully installed SL first, while my computer doesn't even get to the install screen. :(

I got 10.6.2 running on Inspiron 1525

The issue appears to be that the AppleGMAX3100 driver is not complete.

Just move all the AppleGMAX3100 files out of /S/L/E

You could use another machine to copy your distro to a USB disk, then delete or move these kexts

You can do it in single user mode.

(directions in that post)

Then reboot with -f -v

There is no extensions folder on the install disk in /System/Library/ and if you mean i have to remove it post install then that doesn't work because as i said before, i can't get to the install process. I tried copying the image to an external hard drive and it doesn't boot, it just sits at a blank black screen.

anything else? is there something i'm missing?

And I know he couldn't mean remove the /S/L/E/ files pre install, because even if it was on the DVD, if the DVD wasn't RW then these files couldnt be erased.

Actually that's exactly what I meant.

The only way to do that is to copy the install DVD to a rewriteable media.

I had to do that when 1st installing OS X on my E520.

Once you have a working install on some computer, its alot easier to mod that install and then transfer it to another computer.

so install on another computer, copy to a USB, remove the kexts, then restore to the new partition? seems complicated but obvi its worth it.

Exactly.

I posted how I did it on my Inspiron 1545 in this thread.

You also have to add a device ID and add a kext per this post.

Only step you skipped is you want to change the partition type of the partition you intend to restore to type AF.

I use PTEDIT32 (Bundled with Partition Magic) to do this.

I believe you can also do it with Parted Magic (free) or using parted from a Linux Live DVD.

The install I did this from was made per my Dell E520 guide, modified for my Inspiron 1545, then transfered to my friend's laptop.
