Hi there, after doing much searching and asking, i am unable to find any help getting my copy of snow leopard to run on my inspiron 1525

I followed this tutorial, which uses the retail snowleo dvd and a boot132 cd. The guide is designed specifically for inspiron 1525 users (though i realise there are likely differences between the computers that fall under this label).

1. install worked great

2. boots in to snow leo in *safe mode* after install, but all seems to be working, looks nice :)

3. tweaks/kexts/etc applied (have also tried not applying tweaks) except for the upgrade to 10.6.1

4. never boots again, black screen after apple logo on grey bg.

would really appreciate anyones thoughts on why it only boots once, or what a black screen could mean and how to look in to finding the cause/fixing it. I have tried booting in to safe mode but that doesn’t work either.

for some strange reason, this dell will run snow leo on the first boot after install, and then never again :censored2:

I would really appreciate any help on how i can go about finding out what is causing this, could it be the video card? something else?

thanks in advance for your help

I copied my 10.6.2 install from my Inspiron 1545 to my usb disk and tried it on my friend's Inspiron 1525.

A little trouble booting.

Had to add dev ID 80862829 to ATAPortInjector.kext in the ICH8-M section.

Had to apply the AppleIntelPIIXATA fix from this thread.

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=186609

System then booted without KP. However, right when desktop would appear, you get a black screen.

The system is not frozen; just no video.

I did check and in 10.6.2 the video dev ID of 80862A02 is in the AppleGMAX3100.kext and AppleGMAX3100FB.kext

However, the info.plist in AppleGMAX3100GA.plugin reads identically to AppleGMA950GA.plugin

Its bundle name reads Apple i965 bundle driver.

So I think the video driver is not yet completed

If you replace the dev ids in AppleGMAX3100GA.plugin, you don't fix the problem.

If you delete all the AppleGMAX3100* files from /S/L/E the Dell 1525 boots nicely, but of course you have no QE/CI

If you want to try this, boot your system with -s

When you get a command prompt enter the following:

/sbin/fsck/ -fy

/sbin/mount -uw /

mkdir /backup

cd /System/Library/Extensions

cp -R ./AppleGMAX3100* /backup

rm -R ./AppleGMAX3100*

then shutdown your computer by holding down the power button, and reboot with -f -v

Good Luck!

Probably in later updates we will see a working Intel GMA X3100 driver.

Been a couple weeks not sure if you found the answer but when you update to 10.6.2 to need to use the new SleepEnabler for 10.6.2 found here http://code.google.com/p/xnu-sleep-enabler/

Simply replace it with the one found on the SLboot123 CD and you won't run into that kernel panic.

I have not needed to remove any video card files but still don't have QE/CI support I figure it might be a certain kext needing to be removed or something with the dsdt.

I'm not sure of hardware differences between the 1525 and the older 1520, which is what I have. You can always try my guide for installing snow leopard using Snow OSX 3.5 Universal... it may help with your problems...

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...amp;mode=linear

maybe that will help... leave me a message if you need help other than the guide...

(and if possible, if you find a better way of doing a certain thing than my guide states... please let me know and I will update accordingly)
