berlindude
Hello everybody, since PC-EFI 10.4.1 using two Ati 4xx0 cards should be supported. So I gave it a try with my two 4850 video cards and ended up with the problem that booting takes 10 minutes! Performance when desktop is loaded is fine. I tried various methods: - PC-EFI 10.5 on chameleon boot stick - OS X 10.6.1 Combinations: - crossfire cable plugged and unplugged - graphicsenabler=yes in boot.plist - hex string for two videocards in boot.plist (method from aquamac) But all methods and combinations did bring succes. Booting takes extremely long. First screen gets grabled, then mousecurser appears, then screen gets light blue and then desktop loads. Also waking up from sleep takes really long. I know that I am using two 4850 from differnt vendors (HIS and ASUS) but both are flashed with the same video BIOS (except Vendor ID of course) and I also got feedback from an other user, who has the same issue. Would be great, if sombody could help! madsensei
hmm sorry i can't help you for dual cards... but i see that i have the "same" asus 4850 card (mine is eah4850 1Gb) do you try it alone ? and did your fan works ? i use evonabler and the fan stop working since i'm entering in graphical user interface... QE/CI works well... sorry to be out of topic but i'm really out of ideas for this fan problem Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/198090-twodual-ati-hd-4850-crossfire-issue/#findComment-1334159 Share on other sites

But I have to say that when I tried dualcadr setup, sometimes one of the cards (the one without monitor plugged in) fans stopped running when desktop did load. I was not affraid because of good airflow and big passive cooler. Next start everything was ok again. Anyway I did mod my videocards with big passive cooler and silent fans. If the fans do not run, then card is not getting warmer than card with standard cooler... berlindude
Ok I fixed the problem: - updated to OS X 10.6.2 - booted with -x - deleted the ATI4500Controller.kext and ATI4600Controller.kext in S/L/E - entered device ID in ATI4800Controller.kext (because it got updated with 10.6.2) - deleted caches in S/L/Caches - rebooted booting takes a little bit longer as I was using a single card but now everyhing works (sleep, wake up from sleep, monitor sleep) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/198090-twodual-ati-hd-4850-crossfire-issue/#findComment-1342734 Share on other sites
