rwillett
Hi, I have a home system of Snow Leopard Server (licensed and paid for) on a Mac Mini, two Macbooks and (ahem) a somewhat dubious Hackintosh. The latter declares itself as a Macpro3,1. All clients are running Snow Leopard. I run Software Update Server (SUS) on the server which saves me an enormous bandwidth issue. All clients point to the local SUS. The macbooks work fine and update from SUS accordingly, the Hackintosh configured in an identical way (AFAICS) will NOT recognise updates (e.g. 10.6.2) from the local SUS server but will recognise updates from the main Apple server. The log files on SUS show the connection in from the hackintosh, I can actually pull down the config file from SUS server and it all looks right but will not work. No errors are reported on the Mac or the Server. I can't really post this problem on the Mac forums for obvious reasons. The only thing I can think of is that the Hackintosh declares itself as a Macpro3,1. No idea if that makes a difference or not, but I don't know how to change what the hackintosh states it is, I suspect it's something in one of the kexts but I can't see anything obvious. So 1) Any ideas on why SUS works from Apple but not locally where two other machines do work., 2) How to change the type of machine presented to SUS so I can test that idea out. Thanks, Rob. Replying to your own mail is bad form but I resolved this by rebuilding with a new install of Snow Leopard using the method here Retail Snow Leopard link Didn't really change anything but 10.6.2 now installs from SUS so I suspect there is a string somewhere in the system that is needed. Now I need to solve the black screen/Nvidia/VGA problem Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/197942-software-update-system/#findComment-1343087 Share on other sites
