Zaap
Well, more and more I am discovering that AMD just plain beats Intel in the price-to-performance match My experience (having built a looooot of systems for clients, friends, and family) is exactly the opposite. Intel whips the pants off AMD. AMD appears to win with price, until one does a deadline oriented job with an AMD machine vs Intel hardware that yields dramatically better results. (I witnessed it not long ago with an encoding task where AMD hardware took over an hour longer at the same task than similarly spec'ed Intel). AMD is still playing catch up with Intel's Core2 line of processors- they simply can't come close to touching the i7. And I say all of this as a huge fan of AMD, although clearly, not as much as I used to be. As for OSx86: even more reason to stick with Intel. No, AMD parts do not make for good Hackintoshes, if it can even be made to work at all. As for ATI 58xx... they are great cards. But OSx86 support? Fuggetaboutit. broken
Well, more and more I am discovering that AMD just plain beats Intel in the price-to-performance match, same with ATI and nVidia. But, I'm wondering if this new setup will in any way hinder an OSx86 setup: AMD Phenom II X4 3.4 GHz - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819103727 MSI 790FX AMD AM3 Motherboard - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813130223 Sapphire AMD ATI Radeon HD 5850 1 GB - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814102857 Kingston HyperX 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 2000 RAM - (x2) -http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104156 If any of these products will not work with an OSx86 setup, please tell me. Or, if you have any suggestions, that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! ~Ennon I also wouldn't waste the money on the AMD hardware. For a bit more money, you could put together an i7 box that would be a vanilla install of OS X and you would have a far easier time getting it up and running. I like AMD as much as the next guy, but I wouldn't consider them for an OS X build. Hacked distro versions of OS X lead to nothing but problems and compatibility issues. Plus the i7 OC's like crazy, if you are into that kinda stuff. AMD has good value on the budget friendly low end, but not on the high end. Especially once you factor in OS X.
