Hello,

My current setup is:

  • i5 750 (CPU)
  • Asus P7P55D (Motherboard)
  • ATI HD4850 (Graphics Card)
  • Kingston 1600MHz (RAM)

I've been reading up on building a hackintosh for a while, and when I bought these components I had a hackintosh in mind. I understand that the CPU and Graphics Card are both in the new iMacs.

As for the installation, which would be the best way to go about this? As far as I can tell, the CPU is only supported in 10.6.2. Is there a way to get my hands on 10.6.2 without having to install 10.6.0 and updating via the software?

Also, is there a relatively easy alternative for having to use a mac to prepare a USB drive? I can get my hands on a Mac if I need to, although it requires using the ones in the library of my university.

Thanks in advance

I'm pretty sure that 10.6.2 isn't available yet as a retail DVD. Probably the easiest way to prepare things would be to download the free copy of Reb...EFI. On all 4 of my systems, the cd worked fine to install OSX SL...and then, from within that SL system, you can create your USB drive with all the proper kexts to get yourself up and running.

As far as I'm aware: the i5 750 needs a modded kernel, so installing it to prepare a USB drive is out of the question. Does anyone know whether it's likely that there will be a distro(?) available for Snow Leopard e.g. iDeneb.

I have the Snow Leopard DVD as a dmg file (no guesses to how I got this). I'm not too familiar with the dmg file type; is it a mac-specific installation file, or a mac version of an image file? Essentially, is there any way of using this file in the way needed, without having to resort to using a Mac?
