Running iDeneb Lite 1.6 (10.5.8) with latest Apple software updates. I'd like to get FireWire devices working, but although it seems to supply power to devices, I can't make a "valid" device connection.

System Profiler -> Hardware -> FireWire just says "Warning: Unable to list FireWire devices."

Messages that appear during boot:

$ grep -i firewire /private/var/log/system.log
Nov 3 20:45:03 localhost kernel[0]: FireWire runtime power conservation disabled. (2)
Nov 3 20:45:04 localhost kernel[0]: FireWire (OHCI) TI ID 8024 PCI now active, GUID 00000ae6ff788717; max speed s100.
Nov 3 20:45:04 localhost kernel[0]: ERROR: FireWire unable to determine security-mode; defaulting to full-secure.

Installed kexts:

$ ll /System/Library/Extensions/|grep -i firewire
drwxr-xr-x	3 root  wheel	102 Nov 24  2008 IOFireWireAVC.kext
drwxr-xr-x	3 root  wheel	102 Nov 24  2008 IOFireWireFamily.kext
drwxr-xr-x	3 root  wheel	102 Nov 24  2008 IOFireWireIP.kext
drwxr-xr-x	3 root  wheel	102 Nov 24  2008 IOFireWireSBP2.kext
drwxr-xr-x	3 root  wheel	102 Nov 24  2008 IOFireWireSerialBusProtocolTransport.kext

Is there a kext fix or driver or something that may get things working?

install with iatkos 10.5.5 up to 10.5.8

pci card firewire chipset texas intrument

So I should wipe out an otherwise completely working 10.5.8 system, start with a completely different 10.5.5 distribution, hope I can update to 10.5.8 and hope that your chipset is similar enough to mine that firewire might work? Is there a better, safer, more sensible way to try and get firewire drivers working?
